2011-12 ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ intercollegiate sports recap

The ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ varsity sports program had one of their most successful campaigns in 2011-12, capturing seven league championships and qualifying a single-season school record 18 of their 28 teams to compete in various national championships. Two of those teams came away with a CIS podium finish, including the Redmen hockey team, which celebrated their 136th season with their first-ever CIS national title, with a thrilling 4-3 overtime victory against Western. The other Top 3 finish went to the volleyball Martlets, which claimed their first-ever CIS medal with a bronze.

League championships were won in women's synchro, which claimed their eighth consecutive title as champions of the Canadian University Synchro Swim League, both men's and women's hockey, men's rugby, women's basketball, women's cross-country running and women's swimming. The men's lacrosse team also won the CUFLA East Conference title.

During the season, ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ teams boasted 77 league all-stars and nine CIS all-Canadians. Also, 164 individuals were honoured in the fall for making the 2011 Principal's Student-athlete Honour Roll, including 86 who earned CIS Academic All-Canadian status.

On an individual basis, a few ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ athletes also reached the CIS medal podium, led by swimmer Steven Bielby who collected a pair of bronzes (200 IM, 400 IM) at Nationals, along with freshman teammate Marc-Andre Benoit (bronze, 100m freestyle) and the track team, which merited bronze medals in both the 1000m (Charlene Puel) and 4x800m relay (Puel, Aimee Castro, Sarah McCuaig and Alexandra Morin-Boucher).

±«ÓãÖ±²¥'s male and female athletes of the year were hockey players Marc-Andre Dorion and Ann-Sophie Bettez. ÌýDorion was named among the Top 8 CIS Academic All-Canadians, was voted CIS defenceman of the year and received the prestigious BLG Award as CIS male athlete of the year. Bettez was voted CIS hockey player of the year and also was presented with the BLG Award as CIS female athlete of the year
