Alexandra The Great scores hat-trick as Martlets paste Pats

ST-EUSTACHE, Que. Ìý- Alexandra Morin-Boucher of St-Gabriel-de-Brandon, Que., registered a hat-trick as ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ pasted the UQTR Patriotes 6-0 in women's indoor soccer action, Sunday. In men's play, the Redmen tripled the Pats 3-1.

Anna Smith, a sophomore from Somerville, Mass., tallied twice, including the game-winner in the 33rd minute of play. Rounding out the scoring was Zohra Bendouah, a first-year player from Algeria.

It was the third victory in as many outings for the Martlets, who are tied for first place with Sherbrooke and Laval. The Montreal Carabins (2-0-1) sit in fourth place, only two points back, followed by UQAM (0-2-1), Concordia (0-3-0), UQTR (0-3-0) and Bishop's (0-3-0).

"UQTR gave us a game in the first 45 minutes and they had a few chances but our second half was stronger. We raised our level of play and picked up the intensity," said Marc Mounicot, head coach of the Martlets. "We had four goals from our strikers and the movement on and off the ball was good. We defended better as a team in the last 45 minutes and it was a good performance overall."

The ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ women will play the "Big 3" over the next few weeks, beginning with Laval on Feb. 6. Laval has not conceded a goal in their first three games, having outscored their opponents 8-0 over three contests.

The Martlets are hoping to dress a near full lineup after recent injuries have kept out star players like Claire Hooper, Kathleen Wakeling, Maggie Keating, Alexandra Armstrong and perhaps Sophie Horricks who has not played a game since last September.
