MONTREAL The 27th annual Alouettes Classic high school all-star game certainly lived up to its billing. On a cold, rainy Friday night at ֱ's Percival Molson Stadium – which also serves as home of the Alouettes – Team Scott Flory and Team Anwar Stewart went to battle, with the latter pulling out a 28-15 win in what proved to be a nail-biter until late in the game.

The game featured 846 net yards and 39 first downs.

ֱ coaches and players volunteered their time to serve on both coaching staffs, which included Flory and Stewart.

Stewart’s team, also led by former Alouettes offensive coordinator and current University of Montreal head coach Danny Macioca, came storming out of the gates thanks to quarterback Hugo Richard’s 10-yard touchdown pass to receiver Alexis Bailey on their opening series, which capped off a nine-play, 75-yard drive.

Team Stewart extended their lead to nine in the second quarter thanks to a 15-yard field goal by Alex Imamedjian.

The Flory squad, coached by ֱ and Concordia mentors, rallied nine minutes later as running back Marquis Chevrier scored on a one-yard plunge to narrow the gap to 9-7.

But Team Stewart took 16-7 lead into halftime after new quarterback Joel Richard hooked up with Alexandre Huard for a 13-yard major.

Flory’s group rallied again midway through the third quarter after an 84-yard TD romp by Gabriel Parent made the score 16-13.

A two-point safety at 9:50 of the third quarter made it 18-13 but Flory's squad countered with a safety of their own in the first minute of the final stanza, narrowing the score to 18-15.

Less than three minutes later, Hugo Richard hooked up with Bailey for his second TD, a 13-yard reception, to make it 25-15. Bailey finished with a game-high seven receptions for 121 yards

Imamedjian put the game out of reach with 6:20 remaining when he connected on a 10-yard field-goal.

“Everything was unbelievable! The staff, the players, all the coaches – everyone did a great job and it was a great win,” said Stewart.

Maciocia was equally pleased with the game.

“I’ve been here all week and the level of competition has been unbelievable,” he said. “I’ve actually been in somewhat foreign territory since getting here, and had to go back some 15 odd years to remember how to handle kids of this age.”

Maciocia also had some praise to lavish on his starting quarterback, Hugo Richard, who ended up with a pair of TD tosses and 195 yards in the air, completing 11 of 18 attempts. Richard earned offensive MVP honours in a ceremony following the game.

“(Richard) has been outstanding all week long. I thought he played great tonight and I really think he’s going to be special for years to come.”

The young QB, meanwhile, seemed humbled following performance.

“It’s nice to hear those kinds of things being said about me by Coach Macioca, it really means a lot to me,” said Richard, who had great support from his offensive line, notably from Ibra Ndiaye and Sam Clemente.

As far as continuing his career in football is concerned, Richard is more focused on maintaining his level of play right now.

“I’d definitely like to continue, but I have to remain focused in order to do so,” said the 16-year old College Notre-Dame student.

If Richard does indeed plan on pursuing his football career to the fullest, he certainly chose the right stage to begin on.

The Stewart team defensive player of the game award honours went to Malu Bukasa, who led his side with 4.5 tackles, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Player of the game honorees for the losing side, were Gabriel Parent on offence and Glodie Ngula on defence. Parent, who scored his team's lone TD, ended up with an impressive game-high of 160 yards on only four carries. Ngula was credited with four total tackles.

GAME NOTES: Redmen head coach Sonny Wolfe served as game coordinator, while Mike Maurovich, a former Redmen player and coach, acted as a coaching liason between all the high schools involved. Five other ֱians were part of the two coaching staffs, including Francois Chagnon (quarterbacks), Ryne Bondy (receivers), Courtney Bishop (defensive line), Francis Bradette and Mike Bird (offensive coordinator & running backs)... Also working the game was injured ֱ quarterback Jonathan Collin (scoreboard operator) and his father Chris Collin, who coached the offensive line for the winning side, a group that included Sam Clemente (son of Linda Forcillo, manager of client services, ֱ Athletics & Recreation).
