MONTREAL -- It was billed as "An evening with Mike Babcock" and it didn't disappoint.
Ìý
Making a rare trip to Montreal to play the Canadiens, Babcock, head coach of the Detroit Red Wings, showed up in a navy blue ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ necktie and gave a passionate speech about success resulting from hard work and preparation, before a packed crowd of 250 ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ graduates in a fabulous event organized by the ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ Alumni Association at the Mise au Jeu restaurant in the Bell Centre, Tuesday

He also talked about the importance of having a family to share successes with and about never forgetting his roots.

"My father always told me to never forget where you're from," said the 1986 ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ physical education grad. "I'm from Saskatchewan but I'm also from ±«ÓãÖ±²¥. It has a special place in my heart."

Babcock also confided to friends that he plans on wearing his lucky red ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ tie when he steps behind the bench for the Red Wings - Habs game on Wednesday.

Babcock patrolled the Redmen blueline from 1983 to 1987and graduated from ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ in 1986 with a degree in pohysical education grad.
