Bettez bites twice as Martlets streak to 60 games

OTTAWA - Ann-Sophie Bettez of Sept-Iles, Que, tallied twice and was one of eight ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ players to notch two points as the No.1-ranked Martlets galloped past the Ottawa Gee-Gees 6-1 in women's university hockey, Sunday.

The result improved ±«ÓãÖ±²¥'s record to 6-0 on the season and extended the Martlets win streak to 60 consecutive games, just seven shy of the CIS record held by Alberta. It was also Ottawa's 23 straight loss to ±«ÓãÖ±²¥, which owns a 37-2-1 record in their last 40 meetings against the Gee-Gees, who haven't beaten ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ since a 2-1 decision in Game 2 of the 2006 conference finals.

After a scoreless first period, ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ led 3-1 after two and added three more in the final stanza.

Rearguard Cathy Chartrand had one goal and an assist, as did Jordanna Peroff, Rebecca Martindale and freshman Chelsea Saunders. Stacie Tardif, Alessandra Lin-Kenney and Alyssa Cecere each contributed a pair of assists.

Erika Pouliot netted the lone Ottawa goal, tying the game at 1-1 early in the middle period.

±«ÓãÖ±²¥ had a 31-23 edge in shots as rookie goaltender Taylor Salisbury notched the win and improved to 2-0 in league play.

The fifth-place Gee-Gees dropped to 1-5-1 and will try to turn their luck around on Friday the 13th when they return to Montreal to meet the Carabins (5-1-1),

±«ÓãÖ±²¥, 6-0, will host Carleton (3-3) in an 8:30 p.m. start on Nov. 14 as the highlight of their annual Martlet Showdown high school tourney at McConnell Arena.
