OTTAWA – A travel-weary Ann-Sophie Bettez tallied three points as the No.1-ranked ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ Martlets dumped Carleton 6-2 in women’s university hockey at Ottawa, Saturday.

The Martlets extended their win streak to 37 consecutive games against CIS opponents. ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ has also won 29 consecutive games over Carleton and improved to 41-0-1 lifetime against the Ravens with 24 shutouts.

Bettez, a physical education sophomore from Sept-Iles, Que., who returned from Germany on Wednesday where she competed for Canada at the world under-22 championships, netted what proved to be the game-winner at 16:11 of the opening frame, giving ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ a 3-1 lead.

Midway through the second period, Bettez set up Marie-Andrée Leclerc-Auger’s marker to make it 4-1. She then assisted on Vanessa Davidson’s 10th of the season, increasing the lead to 5-2 at 7:57 of the final period.

Bettez, who was voted CIS rookie-of-the-year in her freshman campaign, has a 10-14-24 record in only seven regular season games. She is just three points shy of leading the nation in scoring, despite playing four less contests than Moncton’s Marieve Provost, the CIS scoring leader.

Other ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ marksmen in the win over Carleton included Alessandra Lind-Kenney of Calgary and Toronto native Amy Soberano (both of whom scored their fourth of the season), plus Jordanna Peroff of Keswick, Ont., who notched her third.

Scoring for the Ravens was Jennifer Gordon of Perth, Ont., and Tara O’Reilly of Varna, Ont.

The Martlets held a 39-28 advantage in shots as netminder Charline Labonté of Boisbriand, Que., made 26 saves, including a number of breakaways. She improved to 17-0-2 on the season overall and 87-9-3 in a ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ jersey. Her next start will be the 100th of her career with the Martlets, which would break the team record held by Kim St-Pierre, who had 99 starts among her 103 games played at ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ from 1998 to 2004, posting a 50-39-12 record.

Ravens’ goaltender Amanda Muhlig of Sarnia, Ont., made 33 saves and took the loss as her record dropped to 2-3-0.

Carleton (3-6-0) plays at Concordia (2-8-0) on Sunday.

±«ÓãÖ±²¥, which improved to 8-0-0 in the Quebec conference and 22-2-0 overall, will play at Concordia on Jan. 17, where they will attempt to improve upon their 23-game win streak against the Stingers since the last Concordia win, a 2-1 decision at the Ed Meagher arena on Feb. 5, 2006.
