Bettez rocks, Martlets roll, streak at 75 and counting

OTTAWA - Ann-Sophie Bettez, a third-year ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ from Sept-Iles, Que., netted a natural hat-trick as top-ranked ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ skated to a 4-1 victory over Carleton in women's hockey action at the CU Ice House, Saturday.

The win extended ±«ÓãÖ±²¥'s CIS record win streak to 75 consecutive games and was also the Mart lets' 36th straight conquest over the Ravens, improving their lifetime record to 48-0-1 against Carleton.

Rebecca Martindale, a fifth-year education senior from Kingston, opened the scoring at 2:41 for ±«ÓãÖ±²¥, which led 2-0 after one period and took a 3-0 lead into the final stanza.

Bettez, who now has a pair of hat-tricks to her credit, then bolted into high gear, scoring the game-winner at 19:07 of the first, then connecting at 7:35 of the middle stanza and adding a shorthanded marker at 4:28 of the final frame.

The 22-year-old sniper, who missed two games last month while playing for the national under-22 team in Germany, leads the Quebec goal-scoring race with 14 goals in 13 games. She sits third in the points race with a 14-6-20 dossier.

±«ÓãÖ±²¥, which has conceded only six powerplay goal over the regular season, now has five shorthanded tallies.

Rearguard Kristen Marson of Ajax, Ont., replied for the Ravens with just 53 seconds remaining to ruin Taylor Salisbury's bid for her third shutout. The science freshman from Surrey, B.C., was credited with 24 saves and improved to 8-0 on the season.

Ravens netminder Amanda Muhlig of Sarnia, Ont., made 26 saves in a losing cause as her record fell to 2-3-0.
