Bielby and Chartrand named ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ athletes of the week

MONTREAL -- Steven Bielby of Pte. Claire, Que., and Cathy Chartrand of Lac Nominingue, Que., are the ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Nov. 13, 2011.

Bielby, who measures 5-foot-8 and 155 pounds, earned four gold medals and was named swimmer of the meet for the third time this season, as ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ finished second in the third Quebec Cup swim meet of the season at the University's Memorial Pool, Sunday. The 22-year-old electrical engineering senior racked up a meet-high 644 points on the FINA scale. He won the 200-metre freestyle (1:52.57), the 400 individual medley (4:26.73) and the 100 butterfly (56.24). He also contributed to a win in the 4x100 freestyle relay (3:28.85). Bielby is a product of John Abbott College.

Chartrand, a 5-foot-10 defenceman with the Martlets hockey team, scored twice and assisted on the winning goal in ±«ÓãÖ±²¥'s 4-1 home-ice victory over Carleton last Saturday. A former member of the national team, the fifth-year physical education senior is in her second season as team captain. Prior to enrolling at ±«ÓãÖ±²¥, she attended College Saint-Laurent.
Both athlete will receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
