Big Green gives Redmen the blues

KINGSTON, Ont. - The ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ men's rugby team suffered a tough 7-5 loss to the Dartmouth College Big Green at the annual Queen's-Dartmouth preseason tournament, at Frank Tindall Field, Saturday.

±«ÓãÖ±²¥ dominated the play having possession in Dartmouth's end for most of the game. Dartmouth captain Chris Downer opened the scoring for the Big Green, on a long run, breaking three tackles off the back of a scrum. The try was converted by Derek Fish.

±«ÓãÖ±²¥ regrouped and again seemed to have control of the game in the second half. Despite many long runs, the Redmen were stymied by a tough Dartmouth defence.

±«ÓãÖ±²¥ was unable to get past the Dartmouth try line until midway through the second half,Ìý finally scoring on an overlap with multiple passes out to the wing with Colin Gallacher registering a try in the corner. Mathieu Sidoti missed theÌý conversion.

The Redmen will take on archrival Queen's on Sunday at 1 p.m.

NOTES: ±«ÓãÖ±²¥'s B club dominated the Dartmouth seconds, winning 12-0. A lot of newcomers made great debuts as ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ kept the ball in hand, dominating time of possession. Connor McKenzie scored midway through the first half, breaking through the line from 22 metres out. Cameron Perrin made the conversion. Julian Hoyle scored a great try after most of the backline touched the ball.Ìý Perrin missed the conversion.
