Chartrand's four-point performance helps Martlets extend win streak to 64

HALIFAX - Defenceman Cathy Chartrand of Lac Nominingue, Que., scored twice and set up two others as the No.1-ranked ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ Martlets skated to a 7-2 non-conference win over Dalhousie and extended their win streak to 64 games over Canadian university opponents.

±«ÓãÖ±²¥, which also skunked Saint Mary's 11-0 on Saturday and kicked off their Maritimes tour with a 4-0 shutout over No.7-ranked St. Francis Xavier on Friday, are three games shy of the CIS record of 67 consecutive victories held by the Alberta Pandas.

Chartrand, a 5-foot-10 education junior, notched three goals and 10 points over the three-game road-trip.

The Martlets, who outshot Dalhousie 42-14, also got goals from Rebecca Martindale of Kingston, Ont., Lainie Smith of Aurora, Ont., Vicky Wells of Oshawa, Ont., Ann-Sophie Bettez of Sept-Iles, Que., and Vanessa Davidson, the team captain from Kirkland, Que.

Jocelyn LeBlanc, a native of Moncton, replied twice for the Tigers, who resume league play on Nov. 28 against Saint Mary's.

±«ÓãÖ±²¥ can tie Alberta's CIS record -- which was established between 2003 and 2005 -- with wins in each of their final three road games of the semester, beginning on Nov. 27 against the upstart Montreal Carabins. The Martlets also play at Carleton on Nov. 28 and at Concordia on Dec. 5.
