OTTAWA (CIS) - Three ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ varsity sports teams are listed among the first CIS national rankings of 2012, including the top-ranked Martlets in women's hockey, the No.2-ranked hockey Redmen and the fifth-ranked men's swim team.

Ìý

In women's hockey, ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ (10-1-0) resumes RSEQ play Friday against Concordia (3-8-0) and will also battle No. 10 Montreal (8-3-1) on Saturday. The Martlets were busy and successful over the holiday break, claiming the inaugural Martlet Holiday Invitational Tournament (Dec. 28-30) with wins over No. 4 StFX, 4-0, Manitoba, 3-0, and second-ranked Laurier, 5-4 in a shootout, as well as a 4-0 exhibition victory over NCAA rival Yale.

Ìý

In men's hockey, the Redmen are 15-1-2 and swept both Ottawa and Ryerson last week after splitting a pair of exhibition games against Waterloo in late December. They continue to chase top-ranked UNB (13-2-1), which went a perfect 4-for-4 since the last Top 10 ranking on Dec. 6. The Varsity Reds outscored Ottawa 7-4 and 8-4 in a pair of non-conference tilts in late December, and then defeated StFX, 5-2, and Saint Mary's, 3-2, last weekend in their return to AUS league action. The reigning University Cup champions visit Saint Mary's (10-7-1) on Friday and StFX (5-9-3) on Saturday.

Ìý

In women's basketball, top-ranked Regina resumed conference play this past weekend with a pair of lopsided victories at Brandon, 96-38 and 92-46. The Cougars (9-0) put their unblemished regular season record on the line later this week when they host Manitoba (3-7) for a Friday-Saturday doubleheader.

Ìý

In men's basketball, Carleton also dominated in its return to conference action with easy road wins over York, 90-54, and Laurentian, 98-51. The perfect Ravens (10-0) hit the road again this weekend to face Ryerson (5-5) and Toronto (5-5).

Ìý

In women's volleyball, UBC took the court only once since its last league game in early December but it was quite the duel. In non-conference action, the defending CIS champions erased a two-set deficit to edge No. 7 Laval 3-2 last Thursday in Vancouver in a rematch of last year's national final. The Thunderbirds (9-1) host Thompson Rivers (4-8) Friday and Saturday in Canada West play.

Ìý

In men's volleyball, Trinity Western scored a pair of non-conference wins over OUA rival Queen's last week, 3-0 and 3-1. The Spartans (10-0) hope to remain perfect in league play this weekend against a top opponent as No. 3 Alberta (8-2) pays a visit to the CIS champs in Langley, B.C.
