OTTAWA (CIS) - The ±«ΣγΦ±²₯ women's cross-country running team have joined the Martlets soccer squad in the weekly Blackberry-CIS Top 10 rankings of the season.

In women's soccer, the Martlets remain No.2 in the nation in the wake of a 5-0 victory over UQTR and a 0-0 draw at Montreal. ±«ΣγΦ±²₯ will host UQAM on Friday and travel to Sherbrooke on Sunday.

The Alberta Pandas (6-0-0) move up three positions to No. 1 following a pair of Top-10 road victories, 2-0 over No. 7 UBC (4-1-1) last Friday and 3-2 over Trinity Western (5-1-0) on Saturday, on a 90th-minute goal by Heather Lund. Alberta remains on the road this weekend for contests against Regina (2-3-1) and Manitoba (0-3-3). The Spartans, who had opened the weekend with a 4-0 shutout of Saskatchewan, fall to No. 4 following their first loss of the season. TWU had led the first four coaches' poll of the campaign.

In men's soccer, reigning CIS champion Laval (6-0-0) continued to roll with a 5-0 shutout of Concordia (0-5-0) and a 5-1 win at Sherbrooke (1-4-0). The No. 1 Rouge et Or visits UQTR (2-1-2) on Sunday for its lone match-up of the coming weekend.

In women's cross country, the ±«ΣγΦ±²₯ Martlets are ranked fourth in the nation after a solid fourth-place finish at the Western International meet in London, Ont., last weekend. McMaster (89.2 points) edges Guelph (86.9) in the inaugural rankings after claiming the team title last Saturday at the Western International thanks to a four-point lead over the Gryphons. The Guelph women claimed their CIS-record fifth straight national banner last fall.

On the men's side, Guelph (88.6 points) opens at No. 1 in front of OUA rivals Windsor (87.1) and Western (61.4). The Gryphons are four-time defending CIS champions and have been crowned eight times over the past 11 years.

In women's rugby, three-time defending CIS champion Lethbridge (2-0-0) kicked off Canada West conference play with a 63-0 blanking of Victoria and a 48-7 domination of No. 10 UBC (0-1). The top-ranked Pronghorns now have to wait until Oct. 15 to get back on the field against Calgary.

In football, the seven-time defending Quebec champion Laval Rouge et Or top the Football Reporters of Canada - CIS rankings for the fourth straight week.

The Rouge et Or, who occupy the No. 1 spot for the 51st time in 55 polls dating back to the start of the 2005 campaign, moved to 4-0 for the sixth year in a row on Sunday thanks to a 23-7 home win over Sherbrooke (1-3) in front of 15,126 fans at PEPS Stadium.

Laval, which received 43 out of a possible 44 first-place votes in the fifth national poll of the season, will try to extend a pair of impressive streaks Sunday when the 2-2 Concordia Stingers pay a visit in Quebec City. The QUFL powerhouse is riding a 39-game overall winning streak at home (since a 14-13 loss to Montreal on Sept. 19, 2004) and has won 14 straight overall against Concordia (since a 38-30 road loss on Oct. 4, 2003) including a pair of lopsided victories a year ago, 51-0 in conference play and 63-1 in a Quebec semifinal.

The rest of the top six also remains unchanged in the new FRC poll with the Ottawa Gee-Gees (5-0), Montreal Carabins (4-0), Calgary Dinos (3-1), Western Ontario Mustangs (4-1) and Regina Rams (3-1) following in order.
