Doucet strikes twice as Redmen slice 'n dice Dartmouth

HANOVER, NH - Right winger Guillaume Doucet of Anjou, Que., scored twice and added a helper as visiting ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ skated to a 7-4 victory over the Dartmouth College Big Green in a men's hockey non-conference game, Saturday.

It marked ±«ÓãÖ±²¥'s first win over Dartmouth since 1999 and only the second victory since 1946, improving their lifetime record to 16-11-0 overall against the Big Green, since the series began in 1909.

The teams were deadlocked at 1-1 after the opening period and 3-3 after two as the lead changed hands four times before ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ exploded four times in the final stanza.

Doucet, a 23-year-old physical education junior, tied the game at 3-3 late in the middle period and sealed the deal with an empty-netterÌý in the final minute of play. The 5-foot-9, 179-pound ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ leads the Redmen in scoring with 10 goals and 15 points in nine games overall.

Sophomore Alexandre Picard-Hooper of Boucherville, Que., and freshman Patrick Belzile of St. Eloi, Que., scored respectively, to put the Redmen ahead 5-3 with goals only 22 seconds apart near the six-minute mark of the third.

Dartmouth's Adam Estoclet replied with his second of the night at 10:18 but ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ made it 6-4 six minutes later when junior Evan Vossen of Swift Current, Sask., gave the Redmen a 6-4 lead.

Sophomore Andrew Wright of Toronto tallied ±«ÓãÖ±²¥'s other marker. Rounding out the scoring for Dartmouth was Mark Goggin and Mike Keenan.

Dartmouth had a 28-23 edge in shots as Redmen netminder Hubert Morin, a sophomore from St. Georges de Beauce, Que., stretched his current undefeated streak to 5-0-1 with a 24-save effort on the heels a 46-save performance in a 3-3 draw at Harvard the previous night,

Only seven minor penalties were called in the Dartmouth contest, compared to the Harvard encounter, which featured 27 infractions, including 17 to the Redmen who salvaged the tie despite being shorthanded 12 times.

±«ÓãÖ±²¥ is 6-2-1 overall and will resume league play when they host Queen's before an expected sell-out crowd at McConnell Arena on Oct. 30.
