MONTREAL - Defenceman Cathy Chartrand, a senior from Lac Nominingue, Que., and rookie ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ Katia °ä±ôé³¾±ð²Ô³Ù-±á±ð²â»å°ù²¹ of St. Bruno de Montarville, Que., have each added two pieces of silverware to their trophy cases, heading a list of ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ women's hockey awards announced by head coach Peter Smith.

Chartrand, an all-Canadian who captained the Martlets to their third CIS national championship, was named as the team's most valuable player and the most outstanding defenceman.

Clement-Heydra received trophies for being the team's top scorer and rookie of the year.

Other major awards were presented to ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ Chelsey Saunders, a kinesiology sophomore from Ottawa who was named most improved player and ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ Alyssa Cecere, a physical education senior from Brossard, Que., who was voted most dedicated player.

The soiree was capped off by the presentation of game jerseys to five graduating seniors. The group included Alessandra Lind-Kenny of Calgary, plus Cecere and fellow fifth-year veterans Carly Hill of Dorval, Que., in addition to Jasmine Sheehan and Lisa Zane, both natives of Mississauga, Ont.

The latter four have the unique distinction of being among nine players in CIS history to play in five consecutive national championship gold medal games. The ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ quartet ended up with three gold medals and a pair of silvers.

Chartrand, named ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ female athlete of the year the previous week, is a physical and health education senior who was the top-scoring defenceman in the country for the second year in a row, registering eight goals and 29 points in 20 regular season games. In 43 games overall, she tallied 15 goals and 49 points. Chartrand capped her stellar campaign by receiving all-tournament at the CIS championship for the fourth consecutive year.

°ä±ôé³¾±ð²Ô³Ù-±á±ð²â»å°ù²¹, a physical education freshman, established ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ single-season rookie records with 20 goals and 52 points in 42 games overall. She was the Quebec conference rookie of the year, made the CIS all-rookie team and was named ±«ÓãÖ±²¥'s female freshman of the year.

Saunders, a defensive ±«ÓãÖ±²¥, scored three goals and nine points with only two penalty minutes in 33 games overall.

Cecere, an alternate captain, wraps up her collegiate career with a 43-67-110 record and 118 penalty minutes in 178 games overall.

Hill, who earned second-team all-star status as a ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ this season and as a defenceman last year, won gold with a CIS all-star squad at the 2011 World University FISU Winter Games in Turkey. She capped a fine ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ career with a 51-76-136 dossier and 130 PIMs, while playing in a school record 231 games.

Sheehan, an alternate captain and one of a handful of Martlets to reach the double century mark in games played, dressed in 209 contests and registered a 29-88-117 lifetime record with 76 PIMs.

Zane, an alternate captain and stay-at-home defenceman, scored six goals and 41 points with 54 PIMs in 199 career contests.
Ìý
Lind-Kenny, a philosophy major, suited up for 167 contests with the Martlets and posted a 32-34-66 record with 60 PIMs.
