Lafourcade breaks ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ record, wins pentathlon gold at track meet

Lucas Lafourcade, a native of Bordeaux, France and a member the Redmen track & field team, set three personal bests in his first competition of the indoor season and smashed his own school record en route to winning a gold medal in the pentathlon at the Dome Distance Dance meet in Ottawa, Friday (Nov. 20).

A 19-year-old sophomore in International Development Studies, Lafourcade registered 3,483 points to break the ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ record of 3,320. He won the 60-metre hurdles (8.73 seconds), was second in the 1000m (2:55.09), won the high jump (1.86m), was second in the long jump (6.57m) and finished second in the shot put (11.43m).

He was the only member of the ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ track team to compete at the event. The intercollegiate indoor season officially gets underway on Nov. 27 with the Red, Garnet & Gold meet in Ottawa, followed by the first ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ Open meet of the season on Dec. 5.
