Lightning strikes twice as Colarossi upends Pats

TROIS-RIVIERES -- Forward Selena Colorassi came off the bench and scored twice, less than two minutes apart, as the No.2-ranked ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ women's soccer team toppled the UQTR Patriotes 3-1 on Sunday. The win extended ±«ÓãÖ±²¥'s undefeated streak to 9-0-3 overall, including an 8-0-2 mark in league play.
Colarossi, a freshman from Burlington, Ont., came on at halftime and converted a pass from Hannah Simmons of West Vancouver, B.C., in the 55th minute. Like a rare lightning bolt,Ìý she struck paydirt again on a similiar play from Simmons just a minute later.
Rookie Meghan Bourque, also from Burlington, had given the Martlets a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute of play.
Catherine Bombardier of Drummondville, Que.,
replied for the Patriotes in a chippy contest that featured 27
fouls, three yellow cards and one red.
"We took care of business today but for the past two games, we have not played with as much intensity as I would have liked,' said head coach Marc Mounicot.Ìý "We gave up three goals in two games and missed too many scoring opportunities in front of the net."
Goalkeeper Victoria Muccilli, a freshman from
Mississauga, Ont., made three saves and was credited with the win,
while Montrealer Isabelle B-Senecal was credited
with seven saves in a losing cause.
The division-leading Martlets have two key games in the coming week. they travel to third place Laval (7-1-2) on Friday before hosting second place Montreal (8-1-1) on Sunday at 5 p.m. at Molson stadium.
