±«ÓãÖ±²¥ BCom students take first place at the Thammasat University Business Challenge 2005

Published: 30 August 2005

A team of four BCom students (Taryn Barker, Ralph D'Iorio, Jennifer Dunn and Emaad Sami) finished first overall at the Thammasat University Business Challenge 2005 (TUBC 2005), held in Bangkok, Thailand, from August 17-20, 2005.

In the Fall 2004 semester, they first participated in the Case Analysis and Presentation course and were then selected to represent ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ at this very prestigious event.

The eighth annual TUBC attracted a total of 15 teams from Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, the United States and Canada. Before the competition started, all the students had the opportunity to network. They participated in a series of social events, including a night cruise/dinner and a full-day tour of the old capital of Thailand — Ayatthaya — and a cruise/lunch down the Chao Phraya River. The next morning, they received the case, which dealt with the issue of tourism in Thailand, and had 40 hours to submit their analysis and recommendations.

In the preliminary round, ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ ended up in a division with Thammasat, National University of Singapore and Bangkok University. Making the finals, ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ then competed against the University of Washington, Singapore Management University and Chinese University in Hong Kong. After the final round, it was announced that ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ had won the competition — a wonderful accomplishment!

A special thanks goes to Professors Donovan, Goldsman, Toulan, Vakratsas and Burlton, who provided their valuable input and feedback to the team.
