±«ÓãÖ±²¥ rowing grad Vandor finishes fourth at World Cup regatta

LUCERNE, Switzerland -- Doug Vandor, a product of the ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ rowing program from Dewittville, Que., finished fourth at the Samsung World Cup regatta, Sunday.
Vandor, who graduated with a science degree in 2002, was teamed in the Canadian lightweight men's double with Cam Sylvester of Caledon, Ont. After some strong preliminary races, they were clocked in six minutes, 31.58 seconds, behind medal winners New Zealand, Italy and Denmark.
It was the first major test of the 2011 season for the Canadian team, which came away with four medals - three in Olympic class boats and one in a non-Olympic category.
Tracy Cameron of Shubenacadie, N.S., and Victoria's Lindsay Jennerich captured the women's lightweight doubles event.
The Canadian women's eights team finished second in its race. The world-champion Americans were first in 6:28.35 despite trailing Canada for most of the race. The Canucks were second in 6:29.41 while the Netherlands finished third in 6:31.73.
The Canadian squad consisted of: Lesley Thompson-Willie and Ashley Brzozowicz (both of London, Ont.), Krista Guloien of Port Moody, B.C., Winnipeg's Janine Hanson, Darcy Marquardt of Richmond, B.C., Natalie Mastracci of Thorold, Ont., Montreal's Andreanne Morin, Cristy Nurse of Georgetown, Ont., and Regina's Rachelle Viinberg.
Victoria's David Calder and Scott Frandsen of Kelowna, B.C., were third in the men's pair. A New Zealand squad finished first in 6:21.76 followed by Great Britain in 6:28.16. The Canadians were next in 6:29.47.
