MONTREAL - Ben Thompson of the ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ Redmen, has earned all-conference honours in the Quebec University Football League as the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec announced the 2010 all-stars, Wednesday.

Ìý

The 6-foot-1, 275-pound defensive lineman from Fredericton had a dominant campaign, finishing third in the league with 45.5 total tackles, 36 of them solos. Thompson, a 21-year-old marketing senior, had 10.5 tackles for loss, one quarterback sack and two fumble recoveries.

First-place Laval led all teams with 10 all-star selections, followed by Sherbrooke (7), Montreal (6), Bishop's (2), Concordia (2) and ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ (1).

Ìý

In voting conducted by the six QUFL coaches, there were five unanimous picks, three of them from Laval, including guard Pascal Baillargeon of St-Anselme, Que., defensive end Arnaud Gascon-Nadon and kicker Christopher Milo, both native Montrealers. The other two were from the Sherbrooke Vert & Or --Ìý inside receiver Alexandre Poirier of Victoriaville, Que., and linebacker Kevin Régimbald-Gagné of Rouyn-Noranda, Que.

Ìý

Poirier made 57 catches this season, including four for touchdowns while racking up 760 yards in nine games to lead Sherbrooke to a third-place finish in the conference. Régimbald-Gagné earned the nod at linebacker with a 4.7 tackle per game average. Gascon-Nadon, a transfer from Rice University, recorded 25 tackles, including 19 solos and eight quarterback sacks.

Ìý

For the second straight year, kicker Christopher Milo was a unanimous selection. He connected on 22 of 26 field goals attempted. In addition to an impressive 84.6 per cent success rate on field goals, Milo re-wrote the QUFL record book, establishing a trio of career benchmarks including most field goals (69), points (385) and conversions (155).

Ìý

Offensively, Sherbrooke receiver Simon Charbonneau-Campeau of St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que., set a single-season record for most receiving yards with 1,121 in nine games, bettering the previous record of 1,091 yards held by Jock Climie of Queen's University. Climie set his record in 1988 when the season consisted of just seven games.

Ìý

On the defensive side of the ball, Montreal Carabins safety Julien Hamel of Boucherville, Que., set a conference record for most interceptions in a game when he picked off four Concordia passes in a 21-14 loss on October 22.

The QUFL's five major award winners will be announced in a press conference next Monday at the Centre Culturel on the campus of the Université de Sherbrooke. The event will be webcast live at .
