VANCOUVER - The Canadian men's Olympic hockey team got off to a good start at the Vancouver Games, Tuesday with an 8-0 rout over Norway.

"I really liked our energy players," said Team Canada head coach Mike Babcock, a ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ grad who played for the Redmen from 1983 to 1987. "It's really important for us to have a whole lot of hungry players here ... I like determination and I like will."

Among the Canadian Olympians in attendance was silver medalist freestyle skier Jennifer Heil, a ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ management student who revealed during a CTV in-game interview that Babcock had offered her tickets to the game which has been sold out for months.

Ìý

"See, it pays to go to school," chirped CTV play-by-play announcer Gord Miller.

Babcock and Heil are among 13 "±«ÓãÖ±²¥ians" -- five of them athletes -- at the Games. The Canadian men are 1-0 and will play Switzerland on Feb. 18.

Meanwhile, the Canadian women's hockey team, which features three players and one coach from ±«ÓãÖ±²¥, is cruising along with two wins in as many games. Goaltender Kim St-Pierre, a ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ grad, made nine saves in their Games opener, an 18-0 win over Slovakia. Defenceman Catherine Ward, also a grad, picked up one assist in that game and added a goal and a helper in the next contest, a 10-0 conquest over Switzerland, Monday, where she played a team-high 20 minutes and 15 seconds.

Still waiting to see action is goaltender Charline Labonté, who backstopped ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ to the CIS national championship in each of the last two seasons.

The women will play Sweden on Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. Eastern.
