QUEBEC CITY -- Two members of the 鲍鱼直播 Redmen -- Jonathan Collin of Greenfield Park, Que., and Charles-Antoine Sinotte from Trois-Rivi猫res, Que., -- are among the five major award winners announced by the Quebec University Football League at a press conference in Quebec City, Monday.

听

Collin is the QUFL rookie of the year, and the league's candidate for the Peter Gorman Trophy, presented to the top freshman in the CIS.

听

Sinotte, a fourth-year receiver, is the QUFL nominee for the Russ Jackson Award, given annually to the CIS football player who combines academic results, community involvement and football excellence.

听

Among the other awards announced, Laval quarterback Benoit Groulx of Montreal is the winner of the Jeff Russel memorial trophy as the QUFL player of the year for the second consecutive season and becomes the league's nominee for the Hec Crighton trophy, awarded to the most outstanding player in the CIS.

Concordia linebacker Cory Greenwood of Kingston, Ont., is the league's defensive player of the year, and the Quebec nominee for the nation's Presidents' Trophy. Laval's David Bouchard of Trois-Rivi猫res, is the league's most outstanding lineman, and QUFL nominee for the J.P. Metras Trophy.

Collin, a six-foot-4, 240-pound pivot, broke into the lineup in Week 1, became a starter during the second week of the season and started all seven remaining games, leading a team that had gone winless for two consecutive seasons into one that finished with a 3-5 record and just missed qualifying for post-season play on point-differential. 鲍鱼直播 ran 550 offensive plays to lead the league, including 298 passing plays, which ranked second in the conference.

Selected as the QUFL offensive player of the week after his first start, the 20-year-old education major ended up leading the league in touchdowns scored with seven in eight games, establishing single-season school records for most TDs scored by a freshman and most by a quarterback. He completed 145 of 288 pass attempts for 1,529 yards, eight TDs and 10 interceptions, ranking fourth among league leaders with an average of 191.1 passing yards per game.

听

Sinotte, a three-time conference all-star wide receiver who measures six-feet and weighs 185-pounds, had 49 receptions for 491 yards and five TDs, establishing a CIS record for most receptions in a career with 199 in 30 games at 鲍鱼直播.

听

Away from the gridiron, the 22-year-old physical education senior has merited听 Academic All-Canadian honours and made the Principal's Academic Honour Roll. He served as a volunteer team representative on the Student Athletics Council at 鲍鱼直播 and has coordinated annual team visits to Montreal's Children's Hospital during Christmas period to bring gifts to patients. Sinotte initiated a three-day football skills camp for high school student-athletes of the greater Trois-Rivi猫res region. The camp utilizes players from the QUFL to inspire and teach football, nutrition and conditioning skills.

听

He has also made numerous visits to elementary schools in his hometown, addressing students on the role football has played in his life and how the sport helps shape work ethic, leadership, setting and achieving goals, chasing one's dreams, time management, confidence and working hard academically.

听

Sinotte has served as a volunteer receivers coach for the past two springs in the Alouettes Classic, an annual Montreal high school all-star game. In addition, he has volunteered as a football instructor with the Montreal police force's ACES Program, which promotes football participation in high schools that have the lowest graduation and highest crime rates.

听

Groulx , in his fifth and final season of CIS eligibility, reached new heights in 2009, despite missing a pair of games due to injury. He led the QUFL with 18 touchdown tosses and recorded a conference best 73.2-percent completion rate, completing 101 of 138 passes attempted for 1,462 yards while being intercepted on just three occasions.

听

His statistics are even more impressive given the fact that Groulx only played one full game at quarterback this season. He missed two contests with injuries, was removed at half-time in three blow-outs and played only three quarters in two other games.

听

Greenwood recorded a conference-leading 62 tackles, including 52 solos, for an average of 7.8 tackles per game. His 14-tackle performance against听 Sherbrooke on Sept. 19, was the fifth-best single-game total recorded in Quebec league history since defensive stats were first kept in 1981. A senior who sits eighth in the QUFL record book with 186.5 career tackles. Greenwood was recently ranked third in the CFL list of prospects for the 2010 Canadian College Draft.

Bouchard, in his fifth season with the Rouge et Or, was a major factor in Laval racking up the second-best ground attack in the QUFL. The 6-foot-5, 325-pound left tackle impressed players and coaches alike this season with his physical prowess, technique and work ethic. His presence on the gridiron helped Laval amass 1,556 rushing yards in eight games.

听

The coach-of-the-year award will be announced during the week following the Dunsmore Cup championship game between Montreal and Laval on Saturday (12:30 p.m.), scheduled to be televised nationally on SRC, the French-language division of the CBC.听 The CIS major award winners will be announced on Nov. 26, during the all-Canadian awards gala which will be held as part of the Vanier Cup festivities in Quebec City.
