Medal sweep for ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ women at Tremblant Triathlon

MONT TREMBLANT - The ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ Triathlon Club came away with three medals at the Mont Tremblant triathlon on June 12.Ìý It was a medal sweep in the women's 20-29 age group for Jozina Vander Klok (gold), Annelise Miller (silver) and Jessica Murphy (bronze).

The ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ Triathlon Club sent 15 athletes to compete in the various triathlon and duathlon events held on the Mont Tremblant Circuit race track, with the swim segment taking place in Lac Moore.

The best results were posted in the sprint triathlon - a 750-metre swim, a 20k bike race and a five kilometre run - by the ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ women with Vander Klok, Miller and Murphy sweeping the top three positions in a field of 19.

Teammate Shannon Carter and Emily Kay-Rivest placed seventh and 11th, respectively.

"It was a good race for us," said Vander Klok, a doctorate student in linguistics. "It was fun and the conditions were very good, not too hot.Ìý The water at the lake was a little murky, making the swim more difficult."

In the men's 20-29 age group, Julian Gitelman finished seventh of 35 athletes.

In the 30-39 age group, both Cristina Pensato and Andrew Chung each placed 10th overall.

Members of the ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ club also took part in the Olympic triathlon (1.5 km swim, 40 km bike, 10km run). Among them, Seth Davis, Troy Puddington and Scott Cooper, placed 11th, 12th and 14th, respectively, out of 31 entries in the 20-29 age category.

Vander Klok posted a personal best time over all three segments of her race and Miller posted a personal best in the running portion.

"Cycling on the Mont Tremblant Circuit race track was definitely challenging," said Miller, who just graduated earlier this month with an arts & science degree.Ìý "The uphill parts were hard, and at some points we had to go around athletes who had actually dismounted and were walking up the inclines."

Ìý

The Mont Tremblant event was the second of five target races for the ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ club.Ìý Three more competitions are on the schedule:Ìý at Magog, July 25; in Verdun, August 8; and in Montreal, September 11.
