OTTAWA - Hubert Morin of St. Georges de Beauce, Que., made 20 saves as No.4-ranked ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ blanked the Ottawa Gee-Gees 3-0 in men's university hockey, Sunday.

Ìý

The teams were evenly matched through a scoreless first period but ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ dominated the rest of the way and ended up with a 34-20 edge in shots on net.

Ìý

Defenceman Marc-Andre Dorion, a senior from St. Hubert, Que., netted the game-winner at 16:20 of the second period. Dorion, who has had pro tryouts with three NHL teams and leads all CIS rearguards with 3-7-10 in eight games, snuck into the slot during a power-play and converted a nice feed from veteran winger Andrew Wright.

Ìý

Senior Maxime Langelier-Parent of Lery, Que., made it 2-0, on another man-advantage situation only 24 seconds into the final stanza, clicking on a three-way pass with Wright and rookie defenceman Hugo Laporte. Team captain Evan Vossen of Swift Current, Sask., also converted a nifty three-way play with his team-leading fifth of the season at 15:59. Laporte and Marc-Olivier Vachon each drew assists.

Ìý

"It was a good team win and our offence really started to click," said Redmen head coach Kelly Nobes. "We've had a target on our backs (as defending league champions) and we're pretty banged up right now with seven regulars out of the lineup, three of them with concussions. It appears to me that some teams are taking liberties and targeting our top players, so it feels good to come out of the weekend with two wins despite a depleted lineup."

Ìý

Nobes was referring to the fact that opponents have been called for three checking-to-the-head penalties and three checking-from-behind infractions through the team's first eight games.

Ìý

Players that have missed a significant number of games with injuries include veteran ±«ÓãÖ±²¥s Francis Verreault-Paul, Marc-Andre Daneau and Patrick Belzile, plus defencemen Hubert Genest, Ryan McKiernan and Nicolas Therrien. Things got worse in the first period against the Gee-Gees as Alex Picard-Hooper, the CIS player of the year last season, took a hard hit against the boards and left the game midway through the first period with an unspecified injury.

Ìý

After losing another blueliner in a 3-2 win over Concordia Friday, Nobes put in an emergency call on Saturday to Neil Blunden, a 6-foot-1, 183-pound sophomore from Montreal who played sparingly last year but was one of the last cuts in training camp this season. Blunden jumped at the chance to rejoin the team and had about 10 shifts, despite being parachuted into the lineup without any sufficient time to practice.

Ìý

"It was a very high-paced game and Blunden was very steady each shift, which gave our D-men a chance to get a breather,"said Nobes. "He really stepped it up big time for us."

Ìý

The Redmen sit atop the OUA East standings with a 6-0-2 record. They will host Toronto (4-2-1) and second-place Nipissing (6-1-2) Nov. 4-5, respectively.

Ìý

Ottawa, which fell to 3-4-1, will host Queen's and RMC, Nov. 4-5.
