MONTREAL -- Nawar Hanna scored the game-winning goal on a penalty shot in the 76th minute as the unranked Montreal Carabins surprised No.6-±«ÓãÖ±²¥ 2-1 in men's university soccer action at Stade CEPSUM, Sunday.

As has become customary when these cross-town rivals meet, it was a rough and tumble affair - one that featured 35 fouls (18 to the Carabins) and five yellow cards, including three to Montreal.

After a scoreless first half, the Carabins broke the ice with a marker in the 58th minute when Damir Rosic beat ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ 'keeper Jean-Lou Gosselin.

The lone Redmen goal was scored in the 87th minute by Alexander King, who converted a cross from Johann Capolungo.

Gosselin, a native of Montreal, was credited with three saves and took the loss. Grégory Morin-Maltais made two saves and picked up the victory.

"We gave a better effort and played a solid game today (compared to Friday's shocking loss to UQTR) but two costly defensive mistakes hurt us," said ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ head coach David Simon. "We now have to fight for a playoff spot."

As a result of two weekend setbacks, the defending national silver medalist Redmen find themselves fifth in the seven-team QUSL standings with a 2-3 record. Laval leads the division with an unblemished 6-0 record, followed by Montreal (3-1-1), UQTR (2-1-2) and UQAM (2-2-1).

±«ÓãÖ±²¥ will host UQAM at Molson Stadium, Friday, while the Carabins will entertain Sherbrooke (1-4).
