Picard-Hooper, Martin named ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ athletes of the week

MONTREAL - Alexandre Picard-Hooper of Boucherville, Que., and Marie-Eve Martin of Granby, Que., are the ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ athletes of the week for the period ending Dec. 5, 2010.

Picard-Hooper, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound centre with the men's hockey team, scored 10 points in three games last week. The 23-year-old finance junior tallied twice (including the game-winner) and added three assists in a 7-4 win on Saturday. The previous night, he registered three assists in ±«ÓãÖ±²¥'s 8-2 victory over Ottawa. He also contributed a pair of assists in a 4-3 shootout loss at UQTR last Wednesday. Picard-Hooper, who leads the nation with 32 assists in 18 games, joined the Redmen in 2008 after playing for St. John and Baie Comeau in the QMJHL. He entered ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ out of College Baie Comeau.

Martin, a 5-foot-7 guard on the women's basketball team, scored a game-high 21 points as ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ improved to 5-0 with an 80-54 victory over visiting Laval last Saturday. She was also credited with six rebounds, two blocks and a steal. The 21-year-old sociology sophomore shot 8-for-15 from the field, including a 5-for-10 performance from three-point range. She made all five treys in the first half and fell one shy of tying the team's single-game record. Martin is a product of Vanier College.
