Redmen spank Sherbrooke, extend win streak to 14

MONTREAL - Six different players scored tries as ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ skunked Sherbrooke 44-0 in men's university rugby action at Percival Molson Stadium, Sunday. The win extended ±«ÓãÖ±²¥'s win streak to 14 consecutive Quebec league and playoff games, dating back to October, 2008.

Wingers Gideon Balloch of Ottawa and Brendan O'Sullivan of Toronto each had tallied a game-high seven points with a penalty goal and two conversions apiece.

The Redmen led 15-0 at halftime on Balloch's penalty kick and conversion, in addition to tries by Joshua Blair and Liam Brown.

Second-half tries came from Joshua Reznick, Cameron Perrin, Colin Gallacher and Mathieu Sidoti.

±«ÓãÖ±²¥ improved to 4-0 and earned a bonus point in the QURL standings for scoring more than four tries in the match, a new rule adopted from the international rugby federation. It marked the third time in four outings that the Redmen had earned a bonus point for offence. Teams earn four points for a win and can also be awarded an extra point for losing a game by seven points or less

With two games remaining before playoffs, the Redmen lead the QURL with 19 points, a comfortable nine points ahead of second-place Concordia (2-1). ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ has outscored opponents by a lopsided 143-16 margin. Bishop's (1-2) sits third with five points, followed by winless Sherbrooke (0-4).

The Redmen can virtually lock up first place with a win at Bishop's on Oct. 15 in a night game that is scheduled to be webcast live on SSN.
