Redmen winger Wright gets invite to Habs camp

MONTREAL - Andrew Wright, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound left-winger with the ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ men's hockey team, has received an invitation from the Montreal Canadiens to attend a development evaluation camp on June 10 at the Habs training facility in Brossard, Que.

A 21-year-old economics junior from Toronto, Wright is bidding to become the 10th ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ player to skate in the NHL. He is coming off a solid season with the Redmen, finishing fourth on the team in scoring with 33 points, including 12 goals in 24 regular season games. In 42 contests overall, he posted a 20-42-62 record with 54 penalty minutes.

Wright is among a number of ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ players to earn a tryout with an NHL team in recent years. The most prominent one is current Montreal Canadiens left-winger Mathieu Darche, who previously had stints with Columbus, Nashville, San Jose and Tampa Bay.

Redmen rearguard Marc-Andre Dorion of St. Hubert, Que., attended the Toronto Maple Leafs rookie camp in 2010 and the Dallas Stars camp before enrolling at ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ in 2008.

Other recent ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ grads to skate in an NHL camp after plaing for the Redmen include David Urquhart (New York Rangers, 2009; Montreal 2010), goaltender Mathieu Poitras (Anaheim, 2008; Washington, 2005), ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ Greg Davis (St. Louis, 2001) and defenceman Todd Hanrahan (Pittsburgh, 1994).
