Sherbrooke shaken, not stirred as ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ ruggers cap campaign undefeated

MONTREAL -- Veterans Kyle Buckley of Victoria, B.C., and Bryce Thomassin of Pointe Claire, Que., each notched a pair of tries as ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ routed Sherbrooke 34-3 to close out the regular season undefeated in men's rugby at Molson Stadium, Saturday.

Played in a cold and rainy conditions, the 34 points scored was ±«ÓãÖ±²¥'s lowest offensive output of the season. However, it marked the fourth consecutive first-place finish for the Redmen, who have won 25 of their last 26 regular season contests.

Gideon Balloch, a sophomore from Ottawa, added nine points, on three conversions and one penalty goal. Rounding out the scoring for the Redmen was a try by Evan Straight, a junior from Vancouver, B.C..

Jean-Michel Diorio was the lone marksman for the Vert & Or, with a penalty goal.

±«ÓãÖ±²¥ will now host Sherbrooke in a sudden-death semifinal on Oct. 31 at Molson Stadium. A win would put the Redmen in the conference final for the ninth consecutive year and they would be looking for their fourth sconsecutive championship. The Vert & Or was the only team to defeat ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ last year, shocking the Redmen 25-17 on Oct. 26, to snapa 19-game win streak in league play.
