OTTAWA - Helene Bibeau scored 16 points but it wasn't enough as Carleton rallied from an early 10-point deficit to defeat ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ 69-59 in women's preseason basketball, in the nation's capital Saturday.

The Martlets saw a 22-12 first quarter lead dissipate to a mere 32-31 advantage at halftime. The slide continued in the second half as Carleton led 46-41 after three quarters and outscored ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ by five points in the final stanza. ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ committed 26 turnovers compared to 17 by Carleton, which had a 13-6 advantage in steals.

±«ÓãÖ±²¥ committed 26 turnovers compared to 17 by Carleton, which had a 13-6 advantage in steals.

Kendall MacLeod led a trio of Ravens to reach double figures in scoring, with 19 points. Alyson Bush added 18 and Darcy Hawkins had 10.

Bibeau, a 6-foot-1 sophomore from Longueuil, Que., Ìýshot 5-for-7 from the floor and went 5-for-6 from the foul line before fouling out. Teammates Marie-Eve Martin and Anneth Him-Lazarenko also reached double figures.

Martin, a sophomore from Granby, Que., tallied 15 points and grabbed five rebounds. Him-Lazarenko, a 5-foot-10 junior ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ from Ste. Dorothee, Que., Ìýhad 12 points, six rebounds and three steals.

Freshman guard Roya Assadi of Vancouver, B.C., came off the bench to score nine points and a game-high 10 rebounds in 34 minutes of court time.

"I'm disappointed with the result," said ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ head coach Ryan Thorne. "We were up by 10 early and were within a couple of points with less than three minutes remaining. However, we were missing our starting point-guard (Francoise Charest) who was out with strep throat and Martin played despite similar symptoms."

The young ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ squad, which has 11 players in either their first or second year, also had to make do without guard Natalie Larocque, a transfer from Northern Michigan, who had a previous commitment to attend a wedding party in Quebec City.

±«ÓãÖ±²¥ shot 40 per cent from the field, 40 per cent from three-point range and 65 per cent from the foul-line, while the Ravens connected on 37, 32 and 73 per cent, respectively.

±«ÓãÖ±²¥ is 1-1 in preseason play and will now have two weeks to prepare for the Naismith Classic tourney in Ottawa, where they will play Laurier, Waterloo and Alberta.
