Six Martlets merit all-star status in Quebec indoor soccer league

MONTREAL - Six members of the ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ Martlets have merited all-star status in voting conducted by the Quebec university indoor soccer league's eight coaches.

Ìý

Julia Bahen, a sophomore ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ from Vancouver, B.C., was named along with freshman midfielder Hannah Rivkin of St. John's, Nfld., and Alexandra Morin-Boucher, a junior ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ from St. Gabriel de Brandon, Que., were named to the first squad.

The second dream team includes three ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ freshmen - goaltender Valérie Labbé of Mascouche, Que., Ìýdefender Kendra Bui of Vancouver and Meghan Bourque of Burlington, Ont.

The Martlets total trailed only the Montreal Carabins, who placed five on the first team and two more on the second team. Montrealer Véronique Laverdière of the Carabins was named as the league's most outstanding player and Laval's Caroline Collin of Lévis, Que., was selected as the most sportsmanlike player.

For the second straight year, ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ and Montreal will face each other in the conference's indoor final, slated to be played at the Centre Alphonse-Desjardins de Trois-Rivières on Sunday at Ìý1:30 p.m. both teams finished with identical 6-0-1 records.Ìý Their lone meeting during the indoor season was a 2-2 draw at the Complexe sportif Marie-Victorin on Jan. 16. Last March, the Carabins won the league title with a 1-0 decision.
