Six Redmen named to RSEQ rugby all-star squad

MONTREAL - Six members of the ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ men's rugby team have earned all-conference honours in voting conducted by the four head coaches in the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec league.

Three of the Redmen hail from Vancouver, B.C., including team captain Alexander Sunell, Roderick MacKenzie and Liam O'Briain. Also picked were Connor McKenzie of Calgary, Alta., Gideon Balloch, a native of Beijing who was raised in Ottawa and Quentin Pradere of London, England.

Balloch won the league's scoring title with 41 points, including one try, our penalty goals and 12 conversions. Pradere shared the league lead with five tries in six games and finished second in the conference scoring race with 35 points.

Craig Beemer, who guided the Redmen to an unblemished 6-0 season, was voted coach of the year. The second-place Bishop's Gaiters (3-2-1) won the other two major awards, as Noah Harrison of Toronto was voted player of the year and Max Grouette of Surrey, B.C., received rookie-of-the-year honours.

±«ÓãÖ±²¥, which overwhelmed Sherbrooke 43-5 in last week's semifinal, has a nine-game win streak in league and playoff games dating back to last year, will host Concordia in the Quebec league championship game on Sunday at Percival Molson Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
