HAMILTON, Ont. - Daphn茅e-Maude Andr茅-Morin, a volleyball player from 鲍鱼直播 was named the CIS libero of the year and teammate Kaiva Mateus of Montreal earned all-Canadian honours in women's volleyball, Wednesday night.

听

Andr茅-Morin, a 5-foot-7 native of Vaudreuil-sur-le-Lac, Que., who was raised in Kitchener, Ont., captured libero-of-the-year honours in the RSEQ league for the second consecutive season. She is the first 鲍鱼直播 player to claim the award at the CIS level since it was first presented in 2006.

听

The 20-year-old education junior, who also merited second-team all-conference honours this year, led the RSEQ in both total digs (236) and digs per set (4.29). She racked up 43 more digs than her nearest Quebec opponent, who also played an identical number of sets (55). Her 4.29 average was the sixth best in the country.

听

"Daphn茅e has been the top libero in Quebec for the past two years," said 鲍鱼直播 head coach Rach猫le B茅liveau. "Her best quality is consistency from one game to the next. She brings a positive attitude with good athletic skills to the court for every practice and every game. She is light on her feet, possesses great speed and is an excellent ball-handler. Even though she is only in her second year as a starter, she brings maturity and has potential to develop even further. That's precisely the type of athlete that a coach wants to work with.

Mateus, a 6-foot-1 middle blocker from Montreal West, becomes only the fifth different 鲍鱼直播 player win all-Canadian honours, joining Wendy Whelan (1998), Shauna Forster (2001, 2002), Jennifer Thomson (2006-2010) and Kelsey Irwin (2011).

听

The 21-year-old psychology senior finished third among kill leaders in the Quebec conference with an average of 2.55 per set. She ranked fourth in points (3.33 per set), fourth in hitting percentage (.255), ninth in stuff blocks (0.69) and 10th in aces (0.31). Mateus was also a league all-star and the Quebec conference nominee for the CIS Therese Quigley Award, presented to the volleyball player who best combines leadership with academics and citizenship.

Other CIS major award winners announced during the All-Canadian Gala held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Hamilton went to Kyla Richey, a fifth-year left side from UNB, who was named the CIS player of the year, the University of Winnipeg's Ozana Nikolic, a left side from Winnipeg, who captured the Mark Tennant Award as rookie of the year; Queen's Natalie Gray, an outside hitter from Oshawa, Ont., who merited the Th茅r猫se Quigley Award recognizing excellence in volleyball, academics and community involvement; and Winnipeg head coach Diane Scott, who received the Marilyn Pomfret Award, presented by Coaches of Canada.

The 2012 CIS championship kicks off Friday at McMaster University. 鲍鱼直播opens against Saint Mary's at 6 p.m. They tourney culminates Sunday at 4 p.m. with the gold-medal final. All 11 games from the tournament will be webcast live by SSN Canada, while Cable 14 (Hamilton) will broadcast Saturday's championship semifinals and Sunday's medal matches.

Joining Mateus and Richey on the first all-Canadian squad were conference most valuable players Kerri Smit of Saint Mary's (AUS) and Marie-Sophie Nadeau of Montreal (RSEQ), as well as Alberta setter Jaki Ellis, UBC left side Shanice Marcelle, and Winnipeg middle Laura Sears.

听

Marcelle and Smit are both returnees from last season's first team, while Nadeau and Ellis were members of the second unit a year ago. Marcelle and Nadeau were voted CIS MVP and rookie of the year, respectively, in 2010-11.

听

In addition to Gray, this season's second CIS dream team is comprised of Sherbrooke middle Roxanne Hasseni, York outside Melissa Humana-Paredes, Alberta outside Alena Omelchenko, Trinity Western middle Alicia Perrin, Cape Breton middle Vanessa St. Georges, and York left side Brandie Wilkerson.

Nikolic is joined on the all-rookie team by conference top freshmen Maggie Li of Dalhousie, Roxanne Hasseni of Sherbrooke and Chelsea Briscoe of Ryerson, as well as McMaster outside Lauren Mastroluisi, UNB right side Vanja Mitrovic and Manitoba setter Christina Souza.
