Volleyball ladies rally to win bronze at Carabins Classic

MONTREAL -- After opening their preseason with an ominous 3-0 loss to the Toronto Varsity Blues at the Ontario-Quebec invitational women's volleyball challenge, hosted by the Universite de Montreal, the Martlets roared back with four consecutive 3-0 sweeps to finish third overall.

±«ÓãÖ±²¥ defeated Guelph, Queen's McMaster and Sherbrooke, respectively, to win bronze.

Geneviève Plante, a 5-foot-9 power-hitter from Montreal, was the only member of the Martlets named to the all-tournament team. The science sophomore registered 40 digs, 28 kills and one stuff block in only four matches. She also filled in at libero for one match when teammate Daphnee-Maude André-Morin left the team to be with family in the wake of the passing of her grandmother over the weekend.

The Martlets (4-1) will head to the nation's capital this weekend to play in the University of Ottawa Marriott Classic, Sept. 30 to Oct. 2.
