MONTREAL - Evan Vossen, who scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give the ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ men's hockey team their first-ever CIS national championship last March, has signed a contract to play for the Stockton Thunder of the East Coast Hockey League. The Thunder, based in Stockton, Calif., share an NHL affiliation with both the Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks.

The six-foot, 195-pound left-winger from Swift Current, Sask., becomes the fourth member of the Redmen to ink a pro pact since the end of the season, joining centre Maxime Langelier-Parent (Norfolk, AHL) and winger Francis Verreault-Paul, who signed and played with Hershey (AHL) but has since been released. Defenceman Marc-André Dorion also signed a two-year deal to play for EHC Linz in Austria.

Vossen, who served as Redmen team captain for the past two seasons, played in a school record 216 games overall during his five years, scoring 74 goals and 153 points. He netted 16 career game-winners, the third-highest total in ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ history. His final marker in a Redmen jersey, at 6:00 of sudden-death overtime in the CIS University Cup gold medal game, gave ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ a 4-3 victory over Western. He also played for Canada with the CIS all-star squad that won bronze at the 2011 FISU world university games in Turkey.

"Voss is a rugged player who brings a strong work ethic, great leadership and timely goals," says ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ bench boss Kelly Nobes. "We're quite proud of what he accomplished at ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ and look ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ to seeing him have a successful pro career."

Vossen graduated earlier this month with a bachelor's degree, majoring in industrial relations. Prior to joining the Redmen, he played for La Ronge in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.
