Experts: World Alzheimer Report 2024

A new edition of World Alzheimer Report, to be published Sept. 20, 2024, will take a deep dive into how perceptions of dementia have changed over the past five years. It builds on a 2019 report that found one in four people believed nothing could be done to prevent dementia, while evidence suggests 40 per cent of cases could be delayed or prevented by addressing modifiable risk factors.

Mark your calendars! Family Science Day: September 28th

On September 28^th between 9 am and 4 pm, join ��ֱ��’s Office of Science Outreach, STEMM Diversity @ ��ֱ��, the Trottier Space Institute and ��ֱ�� Physics Outreach, for free science activities for families. Activities will be held both indoors and outdoors at the downtown campus and are intended for children ages 6 and up.

Registration is required for some activities.

In Memoriam: Professor Emeritus Philip E. Branton (1943-2024)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Professor Emeritus Philip E. Branton last night. Phil served as the former Chair of the Department of Biochemistry (1990-2000) and was a Full Member of the ��ֱ�� Cancer Centre (now the Rosalind and Morris Goodman Cancer Institute) and the Gerald Bronfman Department of Oncology. More than that, he was a dear friend to many.

Changes to MCGILL ALERT! Mobile Device Notifications

��ֱ��’s Emergency Notification System allows you to opt in your mobile device to receive alerts during time-sensitive situations and disruptions in the use of various buildings on campus.

In the past, some mobile phone carriers only allowed voice messages, not SMS text messaging. Today, all carriers support SMS, so we will switch Emergency Notification System messaging to SMS for all mobile phones starting September 18.

��ֱ�� researchers awarded $5.5 million in CFI funding

Twenty ��ֱ�� researchers have received infrastructure awards from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) to support their innovative projects, for a total federal investment of $5.5 million.

These grants will be matched by the Quebec government, doubling their value.
