Post-doctoral Fellows ratify new collective agreement

We are pleased to announce that the AMURE union representing Post-Doctoral Fellows held a General Assembly and voted in favor of the proposed new collective agreement.

The parties are working on finalising the documents in preparation for the signature of the new collective agreement. Information sessions will soon be organised to share the details of this new agreement with the community. The new agreement will come in effect on the date of signature by the parties and will expire on May 31, 2026.

Negotiation Update: Post-doctoral Fellows

We are pleased to announce that the parties reached a tentative agreement on March 28 and that the Union will soon invite its membership to a General Assembly to vote on the proposed new collective agreement. The parties have agreed not to communicate the contents of the agreement until the vote has taken place.

Negotiation Update: AMURE Research Associates and Research Assistants

Negotiations for the renewal of the collective agreement for Research Assistants and Associates between AMURE and ��ֱ�� began in the Fall of 2022. The parties have been meeting on a regular basis and have been able to discuss and come to agreement on a number of non-monetary elements.

On April 26, an agreement in principle was reached between the parties regarding the terms of their collective agreement. Previously, research associates and research assistants were part of separate bargaining units, whose collective agreements expired in April 2016. They have since merged into a single bargaining unit.

The parties met on March 21 in the presence of a Conciliator appointed by the Ministry of Labour. They presented their monetary proposals and addressed each other’s questions. The employer committed to assessing the financial implications of the Union’s proposal and will share this assessment at their next meeting, scheduled for April 26. Two additional meetings are scheduled for May.

On February 17, the parties met in the presence of a conciliator appointed by the Ministry of Labour – their second such meeting. ��ֱ�� presented the Union with a French translation of eight articles agreed upon by both parties in previous meetings, and the Union will review these texts in the coming days. The parties will work together with the aim of finalizing them at the next meeting.

Negotiation Update: AMURE (Postdocs)

On February 7, Quebec’s Ministère du Travail, de l'Emploi et de la Solidarité sociale accepted AMURE’s request that an arbitrator be appointed to oversee negotiations. If AMURE and ��ֱ�� cannot agree upon a choice of arbitrator by February 17, the Ministry will appoint one. An arbitrator is a neutral participant with a mandate to help both parties reach common ground. If an arbitrator determines that common ground cannot be achieved, she/he is also empowered to impose legally binding decisions on any outstanding points of contention.

Update on negotiations with AMURE (research associates and research assistants)

The Union and University representatives met on December 19, 2016.

As a follow-up to previous meetings, the University made several written proposals relative to: Harassment, Sexual Harassment and Discrimination; Health and Safety; Work Accidents; Postings, Appointments and Reappointments; and Probationary Periods.

The parties reached an agreement and ratified the texts of the articles relative to Work Accidents and Harassment, Sexual Harassment and Discrimination.

Update on negotiations with AMURE (research associates and research assistants)

The parties met on November 4 and 11. They shared their objectives and constraints related to the posting mechanisms for positions of research associates, research assistants and casual research assistants.

They discussed topics such as centralized posting tools, priority for ��ֱ�� employees, employee selection criteria, duration of contracts, advice for employees who are relocating/have relocated from other countries, availability list and several other topics related to staffing activities.

Tentative agreement reached with AMURE/postdoctoral researchers

The Association of ��ֱ�� Research Employees (AMURE) unit representing postdoctoral researchers and ��ֱ�� have agreed on all aspects of a first collective agreement. The final elements were agreed on at a meeting the two parties held on November 25.

The University will soon submit the tentative agreement for approval to ��ֱ��’s senior leadership. The union and the University will then finalize the text of the agreement and the union will submit it to the vote of its membership at a date to be communicated later.
