We are pleased to announce that on December 23, 2020, the Association of Graduate Students employed at ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ (AGSEM-FNEEQ) and ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ signed a new collective agreement. The previous agreement expired on June 30, 2018 and the new agreement will end on July 31, 2023.

In the coming weeks, the detailed terms of the agreement will be shared with the community. The collective agreement will be posted soon on the Union’s and the University’s websites.

This update is meant to inform our community and has been validated by the Union.

The MCLIU Course Lecturers and Instructors Union held its Special General Assembly online, this November 20th, 2020. We are pleased to announce that members voted in favor of the proposed new collective agreement. The current agreement expired on October 29, 2018; the new agreement will end on August 31, 2022.

In the coming weeks, the parties will finalize and sign the text of the new agreement. Shortly thereafter, the detailed terms will be shared with the community.

We are pleased to announce that, following more than two years of collective agreement negotiations between the parties, ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ and MCLIU Course Lecturers and Instructors reached an agreement in principle on October 30th.

The parties’ negotiation committees have agreed to recommend the contents of the agreement to their respective constituents and to keep the details of the agreement confidential until the Union has had an opportunity to share them with its members.

On September 10, 2020, the University met with MUNACA union representatives to begin negotiating the first collective agreement of their new bargaining unit accredited by the Tribunal Administratif du Travail on August 2, 2019. The parties agreed to meet on a weekly basis in order to ensure the progression of the negotiation. As per standard practice, a negotiating protocol outlining the framework for the negotiation meetings and their conduct was agreed on by the parties during that session.

Following almost two years of negotiations between the parties, an agreement in principle was reached on July 9th in presence of the Conciliator appointed by the Ministry of Labour.

The parties’ negotiation committees have agreed to recommend the contents of this collective agreement to their respective constituents, and to keep the details confidential until the Union has had an opportunity to share them with its members.

On Thursday April 30th 2020, AGSEM filed the attached petition for the certification for academic support workers employed by ±«ÓãÖ±²¥. The academic support workers in the attached list are targeted by this unionization drive.Ìý

Following the MUNACA driveÌýwhich resulted in a new MUNACA bargaining unit, the Union filed a claim with the Tribunal Administrative du Travail (TAT)Ìýthat the expired MUNACA Collective Agreement, which had applied to the prior bargaining unit, should apply to employees now part of the new bargaining unit as of August 2, 2019, the date of the TAT’s decision.

Since the last update on October 29th, six meetings have taken place between SEU Union representatives for Trades and Powerhouse / Macdonald and Downtown campuses and University representatives. The Parties continued their discussion regarding work uniforms, safety shoes and Union bulletin boards; they reached agreements on these matters on October 30th.

Since our last update in July, the Parties have met eight times. The meetings provided the Parties with the opportunity to express their views and their respective positions on the content of the Harassment and Discrimination provision. On October 10, the Union requested the assistance of a Conciliator from the Ministry of Labour. With the assistance of the Conciliator, three meetings took place on the topic of Harassment and Discrimination, more specifically on the application of the University policy Against Sexual Violence.

Employees today are increasingly looking to their employers to provide some form of flexible work arrangement to make their work and personal lives easier to manage. ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ is no exception to this trend. Indeed, flexible work arrangements have emerged as a significant theme of proposed action within the staff-led My Healthy Workplace Learning Communities, launched in May 2019.
