The parties met on November 2nd in the presence of the arbitrator appointed by the ministère du Travail. The parties reached agreements and ratified articles related to the posting and granting of appointments and to performance dialogues.

The employer submitted for review by the union and the arbitrator a first draft of the collective agreement that includes all of the articles that have been agreed on up to now.

The parties met in the presence of the conciliator on Friday, October 28 and resumed their exploratory discussions on the applicability of the article on the posting and the granting of assignments for assignments governed by financial aid programs such as the Work Study Program.

Several proposals were made by each of the parties. The discussions did not however lead to an agreement on this topic.

The parties met on October 20 and 21. They discussed and agreed on the content of the articles pertaining to leaves without pay, to union activities (non-monetary aspects), to the reimbursement of expenses and to temporary alternate work arrangement.

The parties also agreed on the content of two agreement letters related to Human Resources information systems, as well as ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ ID cards and library access.

The parties also addressed the health and safety clause, a discussion which will be resumed at the next meeting, set for November 4.

The parties met on October 19 in the presence of the arbitrator appointed by the ministère du Travail. They resumed the discussion they had started at the previous meeting on the rules governing the allocation of contracts to floor fellows, and more specifically, to returning floor fellows.

The parties made progress on the posting and granting of assignments, a discussion which then led them to address performance dialogues. The employer submitted to the union its proposed text for those two articles.

The parties met for a full day on October 24 in the presence of the conciliator. The parties agreed to conduct exploratory discussions on two non-monetary topics and then move on to monetary topics if they managed to agree on the non-monetary topics.

The two non-monetary topics were: a) the applicability of the article on the posting and the granting of assignments for assignments governed by financial aid programs such as the Work Study Program, and b) mechanisms surrounding the issuance of ID cards to non-student employees covered by the agreement.

The parties met on October 17. The union presented a global counter-offer that, for the most part, aligns with the employer's offer.ÌýSome articlesÌýstill need to be discussed. The employer committed to analyzing the financial impact of the counter-offer before the next meeting, set for November 7.

This update is meant to inform the community about ongoing negotiations and has been validated by the union.

The parties met on October 6 in the presence of the arbitrator appointed by the ministère du Travail. Most of the day was spent discussing the role of current floor fellows in the selection process of new floor fellows following an annual recruitment activity. The parties discussed at length their interests and objectives related to this process and in the end were able to agree on language that is satisfactory to both parties.

Members of the Service Employees’ Union (SEU) Local 800 (FTQ) from ±«ÓãÖ±²¥â€™s Printing Services and Data Centre voted in favour of new collective agreements at general assemblies held respectively on October 4 and 5, 2016. The unions, which represent some 10Ìýemployees, and the University had reached tentative agreements in May 2016. These new agreements will be in effect for five years from the day they are signed.

The parties met on September 30 and on October 4 and discussed several topics. They reached agreements on the clauses pertaining to arbitration and disciplinary measures. The parties also discussed the question of employee privacy and agreed to add some language to that effect in the collective agreement. They initiated discussions on the topic of employee probation and decided to resume this discussion when the article related to posting, appointments and reappointments is addressed.

The parties met on September 22 and 23 and made progress on several non-monetary clauses. They reached agreements on the articles pertaining to relations between the parties, intellectual property and conduct of research, copies of the collective agreement, the labour relations committee and the grievance procedure. Following a discussion, the parties agreed that it was not necessary to include additional language related to workers solidarity, academic freedom and ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ governance.

The parties were scheduled to meet again on September 30.

These articles relate to the purpose of the agreement, union recognition and scope of application, union dues, management rights, relationships between the parties, the probationary period, disciplinary measures, administrative dismissal and employment injury.

Members of the Service Employees’ Union (SEU) Local 800 (FTQ) from ±«ÓãÖ±²¥â€™s Facilities Management, Student Housing Services, Dining Services and the Faculty Club voted in favour of a proposed new collective agreement at a general assembly held on September 24, 2016. The union, which represents some 350 employees, and the University had reached a tentative agreement in May 2016. This new agreement will be in effect for five years from the day it is signed.

Two other SEU units (Printing Services and Data Centre) will submit new collective agreements to their membership shortly.
