Private equity firm The Carlyle Group has named Alain Bellemare (MBA’93) as an operating executive consultant for the company’s global aerospace, defense and government services group.

As an operating executive, the former president and CEO of Bombardier will identify new investment and partnership opportunities while helping to build, grow and transform portfolio companies across Carlyle’s global platform.

Effective September 15, 2018, Danny Di Perna (MBA’97) will take on the role of Chief Operating Officer – Aerospace at Bombardier.

In this new position, Di Perna will report directly to Alain Bellemare, President and Chief Executive Officer, Bombardier Inc. and will be responsible for leading the company’s aerospace engineering, procurement and transformation functions.

Bombardier says it has no plans to pull the plug on the CSeries even though its efforts to secure a rescue deal from Airbus stoked fears about the future of the aircraft program and the company itself.
Karl Moore, professor at ֱ’s Desautels Faculty of Management, said Bombardier may sell a majority stake in its transportation division to raise funds but he’d be “astonished” if Bombardier’s new CEO Alain Bellemare bailed on the CSeries that is two years late and $2 billion over budget.

Reports that Bombardier Inc. approached rival Airbus Group to sell a majority stake of the CSeries aircraft program have set off fears that the company is in deeper trouble.

Former United Technologies Corp. executive Alain Bellemare is set to replace Pierre Beaudoin – who held the CEO position for 6 1/2 years – on Friday and Pierre Beaudoin will become executive chairman of Bombardier.
