Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. has announced the slate of 2017 director nominees to be voted on at the annual meeting, which will be in Toronto on June 21, 2017. Among the list of nominees is Charles B. Main (BCom鈥79), who has three-decades of mining and finance experience, including positions at Yamana Gold, Normandy Mining, TVX Gold and PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

J. Pearce Bunting听 (BCom'52) grew up during the Great Depression, then rose through the ranks of his father鈥檚 brokerage firm to become president in 1967. Ten years later, he became president of the TSX and modernized the operation by introducing a computerized trading system.

The technology was immensely unpopular with old-guard floor traders, but times were changing鈥攁nd Mr. Bunting is now remembered as having been good for the exchange. Patrick Mars, who ran Bunting鈥檚 old company, said that 鈥淯nder his watch the exchange prospered and did well.鈥

Rima Qureshi (BCom'87, MBA'96) knows all about learning to adapt. In an interview with Desautels Professor Karl Moore, she says that as a highly analytical, self-contained decision-maker, her position as senior VP and North American head of Ericsson has taught her the importance of listening, getting others involved in decision-making early, and finding a common position to build on.

On May 2nd, 300 guests gathered at Montreal鈥檚 Omni Mont-Royal Hotel for this year鈥檚 鲍鱼直播 Alumni Association Awards. All told, 17 members of the 鲍鱼直播 community were honoured for outstanding service to the university and society.

Desautels International Advisory Board member Mark A. Hantho (BCom鈥81) and his wife, Monica (BEd鈥81), were given the Award of Merit, in part for service to the Desautels Faculty of Management and for setting up the Hantho Family Fund for Sustainability and Environmental Management.

Michael Boychuk (BCom'77, DPA'78) is the new Chair of the Advisory Board at Fengate Real Asset Investments, a board that he鈥檚 been on since 2014. Mr. Boychuk鈥檚 experience in capital markets is an asset at a time when Fengate is undergoing a period of huge growth. He served as Senior VP Treasurer at BCE until 2009, then President and CEO at Bimcor until 2015.

The Desautels Faculty of Management welcomes Brahm Spilfogel (BCom鈥91), Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager of Canadian Equities at RBC Asset Management Inc.,听 as a Desautels Global Expert (DGE).

Mr. Spilfogel has worked in the financial-services industry since 1991. In 1993, he joined RBC, where he worked as a portfolio manager in the Private Client group and later moved to RT Investment Counsel to concentrate on portfolio management.

Northern Sphere Mining Corp. has announced that Monique L. Delorme (BCom鈥88, DPA鈥91) will be taking over from Robin Pilkey as Chief Financial Officer. Ms. Delorme is already involved with Northern Sphere, having worked with the company as a consultant for the past three years.

Aside from that, she has over 25 years of experience guiding publicly traded companies, including Maple Leaf Foods, Hollinger, and most recently, Zonetail. Ms. Delorme has both Canadian and U.S. CPA designations.

Vancouver-based mining company Callinex Mines Inc. has announced two new appointments to its c-suite: Jordan Butler has been made VP of Corporate Development, while Matthew Anderson (BCom鈥05) has been brought onboard as Chief Financial Officer, replacing the departing Rebecca Moriarty.

Mr. Anderson has lots of experience in natural resource extraction: he was previously a senior consultant with Malaspina Consultants, serving as CFO of I-Minerals, Terra Nova Energy and Dynamic Oil & Gas Exploration, Inc. Before that, he was an accountant at BDO Canada and EY.

In some ways, it鈥檚 the party of the year. On April 7th, Canada鈥檚 biggest fashion names gathered in Toronto for the fourth Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards. The event was heavy on pizzazz, from the pre-event cocktails to the after-dinner party. The guest list was a who鈥檚 who of Canada鈥檚 glitterati, from Erdem Moralioglu to David Dixon.

West Vancouver-based PNG Gold has announced the appointment of Wesley Marstaller (BCom'05)听as Executive Vice President of the corporation. Before coming on board at PNG Gold, Mr. Marstaller served in several capacities at the Macquarie Group, then as COO of the Rennie Group. PNG Gold CEO Greg Clarkes praises Mr. Marstaller, saying that his expertise will help with 鈥渂uilding the management group necessary to achieve the Company鈥檚 near and long term goals.鈥

PNG Gold is a mining company specialized in gold exploration in Papua New Guinea.听

Imran Amed is founder and CEO of The Business of Fashion, the online news site for the fashion industry.

Amed started his site in 2007听as a blog about the fashion industry, but it has become one of the leading sources of news in the fashion world. The site raised a Series A funding round in 2015 from investors including听Index Ventures, LVMH, Carmen Busquets, and Felix Capital.

Amed was previously a听management consultant at听McKinsey & Co. He has an MBA from 锟糎arvard Business School and a bachelor of commerce degree听from 鲍鱼直播.
