Desautels alumni Jonnie Lawson (BCom’20) and Tristan Zeman (BCom’17) are hard at work to make sustainable, year-round produce accessible to Canadians through indoor vertical farms. Over the summer, their innovative hydroponic growing system won first place at the annual ±«ÓăÖ±˛Ą Dobson Cup start-up competition. As they expand into a larger growing facility in Montreal, they’re not slowing down anytime soon.

Erin Janna (BCom'19, GCPA'20), student of the Graduate Certificate in the Professional Accounting (GCPA) program, has been selected among her graduating class as this year’s recipient of the C. Douglas Mellor Prize for academic excellence.
The prize, which is valued at $3,000, is named after Douglas Mellor, the first Executive Director of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Quebec, now the Ordre des comptables agrĂ©es du QuĂ©bec, and is awarded each year to honour Mellor’s enduring contributions to both ±«ÓăÖ±˛Ą and his profession.

Desautels alumna and vice president of RBC RH&N Kathy Fazel (BCom’91) has received the Inspiration-Andrée-Corriveau Award from the Association des femmes en finance du Québec.
Fazel, whose finance career spans 25 years, credits her early career mentors with ensuring she never felt disadvantaged as a woman in a field still dominated by men. She is now inspired to give back through causes close to her heart.
