Stéphanie Bélanger-Naud est devenue la meilleure bûcheronne au Canada, le 27 juillet dernier, en remportant le championnat canadien Stihl Timbersport à Mississauga, en Ontario.

Le championnat comporte trois épreuves qui consistent à couper de larges billots de bois avec des scies différentes ou à la hache, et ce, le plus rapidement possible. Le pointage cumulé à la fin de la compétition déterminait la grande gagnante parmi les six bûcheronnes participantes.

±«ÓãÖ±²¥â€™s men and women’s teams won top honours at the 58th annual Macdonald College Woodsmen competition, held January 27 at the Macdonald CampusÌýin Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, Qc. Nineteen teams representing seven schools, Dalhousie, UNB, Fleming College, Algonquin College, Dartmouth and Maritime College of Forest Technology, competed in team, double and individual chopping and sawing events showcasing skills reminiscent of traditional lumberjacking.

University set to host opposing teams for third tournament of the season

It almost feels like a cabin you might find in Northern Quebec country. It’s warm and intimate, a welcoming feeling on a cold day.

At ±«ÓãÖ±²¥â€™s Macdonald campus, located in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, the shed is filled with giant saws, axes of all kinds and huge stacks of wood that certainly aren’t there to be someone’s kindling.

The shed, along with a snowy field of throwing axe targets and climbing poles serve as home base for the ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ Woodsmen.

More than 140 competitors from six Canadian universities and colleges competed in the 57th annual ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ intercollegiate woodsmen competition Saturday at ±«ÓãÖ±²¥â€™s Macdonald campus in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue.ÌýThe Mac lumberjills left the competition in the sawdust came by winning the women’s division with 1170.03 points, edging out Dalhousie, with 1124.37.ÌýThe win allowed the Mac women to solidify their hold in first place in the six-team Canadian Intercollegiate Lumberjack Association (CILA). The Mac lumberjacks placed fourth on the men’s side with 927.82 points.ÌýMontreal Gazette.

Ayant grandi sur une ferme, Stéphanie Bélanger-Naud a tailladé ses premières pièces de bois après son arrivée au campus Macdonald de l'Université ±«ÓãÖ±²¥, à Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue. «C'est un sport qui m'était inconnu avant d'arriver à ±«ÓãÖ±²¥, raconte-t-elle. Ça m'a beaucoup intriguée et j'ai rapidement eu la piqûre.»
