Imagine a household that produces as much if not more electricity than it consumes. Now imagine that home in Montreal — harsh winters and all. That’s what a group of students and staff from Concordia and ֱ universities is working toward. Students from undergraduate to PhD levels are teaming up to build what is called a “net zero energy” home. Then next year, the residence will be transported to China, where it will go up against other solar-powered housing models from around the world in a competition called a solar decathlon.

The style of architecture found on the ֱ campus is fascinating, to the point where it was recently featured in the (available only in French). Among other the architecture of various buildings on campus, the latest renovations in Otto Maass are discussed in the context of the special needs associated with laboratory work.
