MMF students win CFA Institute’s Research Challenge

Five Master of Management in Finance (MMF) students are off to the regional round of CFA Institute’s Research Challenge, an annual global competition that provides students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis and professional ethics. Facing stiff competition from HEC Montreal and Concordia University, Zirui (Bruce) Chen, Huiru (Audrey) Wu, Neil Wiacek, Chen (Andy) Yu and Haiwen Luo formed the team that came out on top.

Desautels team takes first place at Quebec CFA Research Challenge

Congratulations to Desautels students Olivier Arsenault (MMF’20), Pier-Olivier Laflèche (MMF’20), Sai Kanthasamy (BCom’20), and Mitch McEwen (MMF’20) for placing first in the Quebec regional CFA Research Challenge.

“It was a great experience and privilege to represent ��ֱ�� and the MMF program,” says McEwen. “We owe a great deal to our advisors Professor Vadim di Pietro and Rebeca Yang, CFA.”

The team will head to New York in April to compete in the North America finals.

This year, ��ֱ�� celebrates the 10th anniversary of Desautels Capital Management (DCM), Canada’s first university-owned, student-run investment management firm.

At ��ֱ��’s Desautels Faculty of Management, every student enrolled in the Master of Management in Finance (MMF) and Honours in Investment Management (HIM) programs will enter the workforce with knowledge gleaned from managing more than $4 million in assets through DCM.

Universities heed call for socially responsible investing

As universities are increasingly turning toward socially responsible investment (SRI), an article cites the new SRI fund under Desautels Capital Management (DCM) as an “inspiring example.”

This fall, the Desautels Faculty of Management will introduce a new fund dedicated to Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) under Desautels Capital Management (DCM) – a student-run, registered investment management firm.

Established in 2009, DCM presently comprises three funds totaling $5 million that students enrolled in the Honours in Investment Management and Masters of Management in Finance (MMF) programs have the chance to manage as analysts.
