In partnership with ±«ÓãÖ±²¥, the China Scholarship Council (CSC) offers scholarships to outstanding Chinese students who will pursue doctoral studies at ±«ÓãÖ±²¥. The China Scholarship Council (CSC) is a non-profit institution affiliated with the Chinese Ministry of Education. The CSC is responsible for the organization, management and provision of financial resources to Chinese citizens studying abroad and to international students and scholars studying in China, with the goal of developing exchanges between China and other countries in the fields of education, science and technology.


Doctoral Candidates

Value & Duration

The CSC will provide annual funding for the following:

  • Annual living allowance
  • International health insurance
  • Return airfare
  • Visa application fees

±«ÓãÖ±²¥ÌýÌýin turn, will cover the annual cost of tuition and fees (exclusive of International Health Insurance). ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ may provide additional financial support, subject to the availability of internal and external funding.

Funding is provided for a maximum period of four (4) years.

Eligibility

  • Must be a Chinese citizen or permanent resident of China
  • Successful candidates must return to China upon completion of their studies and/or research
  • Must meet all of ±«ÓãÖ±²¥â€™s requirements for admission to a doctoral program (including academic performance and English language requirements)
  • Must receive aÌýconditional offer of admission from ±«ÓãÖ±²¥.
  • All candidates must satisfy the selection criteria set out by CSC. See for more information.Ìý

How to Apply

  1. Apply to the ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ doctoral program of your choice.
  2. Notify the department or program, and the potential supervisor that you will be applying for (or have already been offered) a CSC scholarship.
  3. Receive the department's funding letter and ±«ÓãÖ±²¥'s Offer of Admission*.
  4. Apply for a CSC scholarship through your home university following the set by the CSC.
  5. Register at ±«ÓãÖ±²¥.

*Please note that the funding offered to you by ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ will be contingent on your successful application for a CSC Scholarship.

CSC Letter Requirements

To recommend the applicant for the China Scholarship Council (CSC) Joint Scholarship, you must provide the applicant with a specific letter of recommendation. Letters of recommendation can be found on our Staff websiteÌý(login required).

GPS MUST be notified when an applicant is being recommended for the CSC Joint Scholarship. To do so, please copyÌýgraduatefunding.gps [at] mcgill.ca (Graduate Funding)Ìýand your designated Admissions Officer when sending the CSC letter to the applicant.

Providing Funding

The funds for the department and/or supervisors' financial commitment should come from awards. Students can be considered for further funding. Ongoing funding will be conditional upon the student’s satisfactory academic progress in the program.Ìý

Potential CSC applicants to the Faculty of Engineering should be nominated for a MEDA International Leveraged award by their department/school.
