Health Sciences Education (PhD)

Program Description

The PhD in Health Sciences Education offered by the Institute of Health Sciences Education in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is a research-intensive program that emphasizes skill-enhancing and innovative learning opportunities. The program’s objective is to equip students with skills in practice-informed evidence review, research design, knowledge production to pursue professional opportunities in academia or industry.

  • Faculty members conduct their research in a variety of areas including: Professionalism and Professional Identity Formation, Faculty Development and Continuing Professional Development, Innovations in Teaching and Learning, Assessment and Program Evaluation, Decision-Making and Clinical Reasoning, Education and Health Care Systems;

  • Graduates of the program pursue professional opportunities in universities, the healthcare system, policy-making in education or healthcare, or in industry (e.g., biotechnology, pharmaceutical or medical equipment areas).

Program-Specific Admission Requirements

  • A minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (cGPA) of at least 3.4 out of a possible of 4.0, or a GPA of 3.6 out of 4.0 for the last two years of full-time studies;
  • An indicative research proposal (two pages, including references);
  • A personal statement (1-2 pages);
  • A Curriculum Vitae (CV);
  • A writing sample (no more than 10 pages);
  • Two letters of recommendation.
