Dr. Changlin Fu - A powerful shift of cloning: from conventional cloning to Hot Fusion

Wednesday, June 7, 2023 13:00to14:00
Macdonald-Stewart Building MS2-022 Faculty Lounge, 21111 Lakeshore Road, St Anne de Bellevue, QC, H9X 3V9, CA

Dr. Changlin Fu (PhD 1989 ±«ÓãÖ±²¥, Mac Campus Microbiology, Supervisor: Dr. Knowles) Cloning Enablement Lead, and Bayer Science Fellow will be presenting industry cloning technology developments of interest to Mac Campus researchers and their lab teams.

Molecular cloning is utilized in nearly every facet of biology and medical research to study gene expression and element function or create a new product. As a growing number of genes and regulatory element sequences are available, there is an increasing need for rapid cloning to determine their function. To facilitate high throughput cloning we developed a method, termed Hot Fusion, which is one-step, single tube reaction and efficiently clones single or multiple DNA fragments into the plasmid vectors at once. The method is directional, produces seamless junctions and is not dependent on the availability of restriction sites for inserts. The method is very robust, has more advantages than any other method available in the market, and has become a working house for us for over 10 years, which has enabled us to deliver over thousands constructs per year to our pipeline.
