Holocaust Remembrance 2024

January 27 is International Holocaust Remembrance Day, which honours the victims of the Holocaust. This day is observed with ceremonies and activities around the world, including on our campus. Below are some of the Holocaust Remembrance events happening over the next few days. Watch our MORSL and ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ social media for more info. as some event details are yet to be published.

In addition to numerous events in the wider community, the events below are of particular interest to the ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ community. Please note that this list is not exhaustive and is subject to updates and modifications.

Events:

Tuesday, January 23rd at 12:00 - 1:00 PM: Provenance and the Orphans of Offenbach: A Rare Books Presentation To commemorate ±«ÓãÖ±²¥â€™s Holocaust Remembrance Week, the ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ Library and the Jewish Public Library welcome all to come and interact with their curated collections of Jewish books. Explore tangible pieces of material Jewish culture that have found their way to Montreal by both routes known and unknown.

Thursday, January 25 at 11:00 AM:Ìý±«ÓãÖ±²¥ International Holocaust Remembrance Day Commemoration.ÌýThe event is open to all members of the ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ community and also welcomes the participation of the general public.ÌýThe event will be held online and livestreamed at:

Wednesday, January 31 at 1:00 - 4:00 PM: Visit to the Montreal Holocaust MuseumÌý(students only) Mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day with MORSL as we visit the Montreal Holocaust Museum. This visit will feature the in-person testimony of a survivor and a self-guided tour. Together, we will deepen our understanding of Jewish communities, dynamics of antisemitism that led to the Holocaust, and skills for counteracting antisemitism.

Ongoing Online Exhibit:

Starting Tuesday January 23, the Redpath Library is showcasing an to mark Holocaust Remembrance Day. This book display was created by ±«ÓãÖ±²¥ students Emmy Priebe, Ella Prisco, Veronika Washington, and Avrel Zimmerman Festinger, and were supervised by Professor Ula Madej-Krupitski.
