Congratulations to the five recipients of the 42nd Desautels Management Achievement Awards, including three accomplished alumni: Meagan Prins (BCom鈥17), Maria Eitel (BA鈥84), and Monika Ille (EMBA鈥20) as well as听Patrick Odier and Brian J. Porter. During the virtual celebration earlier this month, Desautels students had the opportunity to network with the recipients and hear their words of advice.

On Friday, Feb. 11, the Desautels delegation emerged victorious in the Canadian final of the Accuracy Business Cup for the second year in a row, advancing to the International final set to take place in Paris this March.

On February 5, the Desautels Management Competition Committee took third place at the 14th annual Financial Open, the largest Finance and Accounting base case competition in Eastern Canada. The BCom students competed against their peers from 14 other universities, securing 4 podiums, including first in financial accounting and stock market simulation, good for third place overall. Congratulations to all the delegates who represented 鲍鱼直播 Desautels at this event!
Professor Karl Moore sits down with Dick Pound (BCom鈥62) to discuss the politics and athleticism behind the Olympic Games. A former Olympian and a member of the International Olympic Committee since 1978, Pound says audiences should focus on celebrating exceptional athletes rather than the drama of political boycotts.
Thanks to alumnus David Laidley (BCom鈥67), the Desautels Faculty of Management will soon unveil a Laidley Centre for Business Ethics. Endowed by Laidley鈥檚 gift of $5 million, the Centre will carve out a space for 鲍鱼直播 researchers across disciplines to advance ethics in the workplace through academic programming, leading-edge research, and public engagement. The Centre will also have a focus on equity, diversity and inclusion.听
Midway through her doctoral thesis research at 鲍鱼直播, Anita Nowak (BCom鈥97, PhD鈥11) discovered a deep passion for supporting social and environmental innovators. With the encouragement of former faculty member Dr. Michael Hoechsmann, she zeroed in on empathy as the driving force for entrepreneurial success and developed a 鈥淧edagogy of Empathic听Action.鈥 This early research continues to inform her work as a global expert in empathy and adjunct lecturer at Desautels.
As a current BCom student majoring in Managing for Sustainability, Maxime Lakat embodies Desautels鈥 commitment to integrate sustainability into all facets of business. In only a short time at 鲍鱼直播, Lakat has already rallied students around the cause through founding the Desautels Sustainability Network (DSN) and the Canadian Business Youth Council for Sustainable Development.

Mathieu Darche (BCom鈥00) turned down an NCAA Division 1 hockey scholarship to study business management at 鲍鱼直播, but he never strayed far from the ice. As the current Director of Hockey Operations for the Tampa Bay Lightning, Darche is grateful to Desautels for equipping him with the tools he needed to turn his dual passion for hockey and business into a successful career.

Susan Riddell-Fitzpatrick (BCom鈥61) was one of only three women to graduate from 鲍鱼直播 with a Commerce degree in 1961. She went on to become Chair of the Montreal Neurological Hospital Board from 1993 to 1995. Looking back, Riddell-Fitzpatrick is grateful for the space 鲍鱼直播 has given her and her family members to make history and pursue their dreams.
Five BCom case teams made the finals at the 44th annual Inter-Collegiate Business Competition (ICBC) hosted virtually by Queen's University from January 13 to 16, 2022 with the Finance and Ethics teams each taking first place.
