At聽this year's 41st Desautels Management Achievement Awards, 鲍鱼直播 BCom students honoured four individuals who have made significant contributions to the Canadian economy and way of life throughout their professional careers. This was the first edition of the ceremony to be held virtually, with the organizers and honourees truly personifying the values of the DMAA - resilience, pushing ahead and innovation.

Congratulations to BCom students Shelley Sorkin, Dixon Wong, and Angel Miao who won the National Finals of the Accuracy Business Cup case competition. The team will be representing Canada at the virtual international finals on March 12 to compete against seven other countries. Thanks to Melissa Sonberg, Desautels Professor of Practice, for coaching and mentoring the team.

Congratulations to Desautels BCom students Reda Ouazzani Touhami and James Xu, and their teammates from Concordia University and Western University, for winning the National Finals of the KPMG Ideation Challenge. Over 750 applications were submitted for the Canadian finals of the competition. The team will compete for the global title in April when each country will present their solution/prototype to a panel of industry judges.

Doug Allan (BCom鈥�08) is on a mission to teach people financial tips and tricks they probably didn鈥檛 learn in high school. The Desautels alumnus recently released 鈥淎 Fighting Chance: The High School Finance Education Everyone Deserves,鈥� a 10-chapter guidebook that encourages readers to study financial literacy early in life. By discussing topics ranging from creating a personal budget to managing a credit card, Allan aspires to help young people transition into a debt-free adulthood.

A recognized customer acquisition leader with expertise in business development, Rosenberg brings a wealth of digital transformation experience to the table. Chief Outsiders operates as an 鈥淓xecutives-as-a-Service鈥� firm as it facilitates operations for a group of 80 Chief Marketing Operators across the U.S.

Cyrus Moradian (BCom鈥�12) co-founded educational platform Wize in 2017 with the goal of empowering students across North America to reach their full potential. Nearly four years later, Moradian has led his company to raise US $3 million in funding from investors. Wize will use the investment to develop new course-specific tutorials and tutoring resources for all grade levels, as well as MCAT and LSAT test preparation.

Congratulations to Desautels BCom students for their outstanding performance at this year鈥檚 Jeux du Commerce (JDC), the largest student case competition in Eastern Canada. For the first time, JDC took place fully online and brought together 700 participants from 11 universities.
The Desautels delegation of 57 BCom students was led by Guillaume Ouimet and Sonam Levasseur as part of Desautels Management Case Competitions (DMCC). 鲍鱼直播 finished with a total of nine podiums including two first place wins.

Nathalie Bernier (BCom鈥�86) was recently appointed to join the Board of Directors of RF Capital Group Inc. She brings nearly 30 years of experience as an Audit and Advisory Partner at Andersen and KPMG to her new role. After spending the last fifteen years on Wall Street, Aaron Stern (BCom鈥�06) is fulfilling a longtime dream to launch his own investment fund in downtown Montreal.
With ten current employees, five of whom are fellow 鲍鱼直播 alumni,聽Converium Capital聽has already raised over US $125 million with a plan to begin investing at the beginning of April.

As a French-speaking Catholic from small-town St. Alban, Quebec, Jean E. Douville, (BCom鈥�58) overcame religious and linguistic barriers to thrive in Accounting at 鲍鱼直播. Experiencing great success in his subsequent diverse financial career, he made regular donations to his alma mater. In 2019, he funded the creation of Jean E. Douville Bursaries, which provide $60,000 in awards to students without the financial resources to pursue their education and career goals.

A team of Desautels students and alumni has reached the semifinal round of impact200, 鲍鱼直播鈥檚 Bicentennial Sustainability Challenge for students and recent alumni. The winning team, which includes analytics BCom students, Master of Management in Analytics (MMA) students, Desautels alumni, and a software engineer student, created a platform that leverages artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance food security in Montreal. They will join 29 other teams for the semifinal round of the competition on March 16-18, 2021.

David Torralbo (BCom鈥�93) was recently appointed to the position of Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary for Nouveau Monde Graphite, a Quebec-based sustainable energy company that provides graphite-based material solutions to the lithium-ion and fuel cell markets. Torralbo moves into his new role with substantial legal experience under his belt, having specialized in corporate and securities issues as the Chief Legal Officer of Atrium Innovations Inc. and a member of the corporate group at Davies, Ward, Phillips & Vineberg.
